Mount Saint Mary Downed At RPI

Stosch, Hansen score for MSMC

Troy, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team opened a three-game week on Tuesday with a 5-2 road loss at RPI. Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Kaitlin Hansen (Port Jervis, N.Y.) provided the scoring for the Knights.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-5-1 overall on the season, while RPI picks up its first win of the season and improves to 1-3-1 through five games.
 
First Half
  • RPI struck twice inside the first 16 minutes of the contest to take an early two goal lead.
  • Gwen Barnes scored her first of the season at the 12:01 mark of the tilt off a pass from Sarah Sedlacek.
  • The Engineers doubled their lead at the 15:21 mark of the match when Sedlacek found the back of the net for the first time this season for a 2-0 lead.
  • Mount Saint Mary broke through in the 38th minute when Stosch cashed in her first goal of the year at 37:06 to slice the Mount's disadvantage to a single goal.
  • RPI responded with the eventual game winning goal just over two minutes later when Rachel Borra tallied at 39:07 to send RPI into the intermission with a 3-1 advantage.
  • RPI finished the opening 45 minutes with a 7-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Engineers held a slim 2-1 edge in first half corner kicks.
  • Neither keeper was credited with a save in the first stanza.
 
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary pulled to within one goal for the second time in the game when Hansen potted her second goal of the season in the 60th minute. Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.) picked up the assist on the Mount's second goal coming at the 59:15 mark.
  • The Knights stayed within a goal until RPI gained some breathing room with a pair of goals in the final 10:14 of the second half.
  • Borra scored her second of the game at the 79:46 mark to give the Engineers a 4-2 lead and an own goal with just over five minutes left in the contest closed out the scoring in the game.
  • RPI outshot the Mount 9-1 after halftime.
  • RPI took two of the three corner kicks in the second stanza.
 
For The Knights
  • Hansen scored her team leading second goal of the season and moved into the team lead in points with four.
  • Stosch became the Knights' fourth different goal scorer with her first of the campaign.
  • Zecca picked up her first point of the season with her second half assist and became the sixth different Knight with a point through six contests.
  • Marilena Mangiaracina (Franklin Square, N.Y.) made her second start in goal of the Mount, finishing the night with one save.
 
For The Engineers
  • Borra scored twice and was one of five RPI players with at least two shots.
  • Barnes and Sedlacek each rounded out the win with a goal and an assist.
  • Bryanna Swinson led the team with three shots.
  • Megan Wampner and Maya Kessler split the game in goal with each allowing a tally. Neither keeper was credited with a save.
 
Match Statistics
  • RPI closed the game with a 16-3 advantage in overall shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • RPI doubled up the Mount in corner kicks, 4-2.
  • Fouls in the tilt were even at 6-6.

  • Mount Saint Mary opens Skyline Conference play with a road game at Yeshiva on Thursday.
