Women’s Soccer Draws With St. Mary’s-Maryland

McGowan nets first career goal

Salisbury, Md. – Freshman Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored her first career goal as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team closed out play at the Salisbury Women's Soccer Classic on Sunday with a 1-1 draw with St. Mary's-Maryland.
 
Sunday's draw moves Mount Saint Mary to 0-4-1 overall on the season, while the Seahawks move to 1-3-2 through their first six contests.
 
First Half
  • McGowan gave the Knights their first lead of the season in the 24th minute when she finished off a feed from Emma Mihale (Oceanside, N.Y.) at the 23:12 mark of the contest.
  • The Knights' one goal advantage held until the 40th minute when St. Mary's found the equalizer off the foot of Julia Kleine 39:46 into the contest.
  • The Seahawks finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots over the opening period.
  • Corner kicks went to the Seahawks prior to the break, 2-1.
  • Mount Saint Mary keeper Marilena Mangiaracina (Franklin Square, N.Y.) made five stops in the first half.
 
Second Half
  • Neither team would be able to find the game winning goal after halftime with St. Mary's finishing the second stanza with a slim 8-6 advantage in shots.
  • The Seahawks took the only three corner kicks after halftime.
  • Mangiaracina made two more saves for the Knights to keep the game tied.
 
For The Knights
  • McGowan became the third Mount Saint Mary player to score her first career goal over the season's first five games. She stands in a three-way tie for the team lead in goals.
  • Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) led the Knights with three shots in the game, including two on goal.
  • Mihale closed the day with two shots, including one on target, adding an assist to push her into the team lead in points with three.
  • Mangiaracina, making her first career start in goal, finished with seven saves for the Knights.
 
For The Seahawks
  • Kleine picked up her first goal of the season.
  • Ella Raines led all players with five shots in the game, putting two on frame.
  • Audra Haines finished the contest with five stops in goal.
 
Game Statistics
  • St. Mary's held a 20-10 advantage in overall shots, but just a slim 8-6 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks were dominated by the Seahawks, 5-1.
  • Fouls in the tilt went against St. Mary's 10-9.
