Newark, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team took to the field for the first time in 2022 on Thursday night, falling on the road at New York University by a score of 9-0.
Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and
Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) combined for seven saves in goal for the Mount on the night.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-1 on the young season, while the Violets pick up their third straight win in the series and move to 1-0 in 2022.
First Half
- NYU opened the scoring early when Gabriella Funk scored her first of the contest just under 12 minutes into the tilt.
- The Violets broke the game open with three goals in just under four minutes to gain a 4-0 advantage in the middle stages of the first half.
- Funk started the run with her second of the game in the 20th minute with Jessica and Kelli Keady supplying the other goals over the four-minute stretch.
- NYU closed out the scoring in the half in the 43rd minute when Hunter Hoelscher tallied her first of the year to send the Violets into the intermission with a 5-0 advantage.
- NYU outshot Mount Saint Mary 19-1 in the opening 45 minutes.
- The Violets took the only three corner kicks in the first half.
- Brucato made four saves in the opening stanza for the Knights.
Second Half
- NYU picked up where it left off after halftime, scoring four more times in the second half.
- Catie Collins, Summer Steadman, Tate Jordan and Izze Ching all scored their first goals of the second in the second frame.
- Hoelscher picked up an assist after halftime to close out a three-point night.
- NYU closed the second half with a 17-2 advantage in shots.
- Corner kicks after halftime were even at 1-1.
- Kakavas rounded out the half with three stops for the Knights.
For The Knights
- Brucato made the start in net and turned aside four shots for the Mount.
- Kakavas came on the in the second frame and made a trio of saves in her first appearance of the season.
- Jailyn Labuda (Glen Spey, N.Y.), Mary Langan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) each recorded a shot for the Mount.
For NYU
- Funk was the only Violet with more than one goal, scoring her first two of the season.
- Jordan and Hoelscher each closed out the win with a goal and an assist.
- Tyler Hawkins and Riley Felsher each saw time in net for the Violets, with Felsher making a single save in the win.

- NYU closed the night with a 36-3 advantage in shots, including a 16-1 edge in shots on target.
