Men’s Soccer Drops Season Opener To Lycoming

Martinez makes two stops in goal

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team opened the 2022 season on Thursday night with a 2-0 home loss to visiting Lycoming. Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) made a pair of saves in goal for the Knights in his Mount Saint Mary debut.
 
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-1 on the season, while the Warriors win the first game on record between the two programs and improve to 1-0.
 
First Half
  • The two teams went into the intermission on Thursday tied at 0-0.
  • Shots in the opening stanza were even at 2-2.
  • Each team took one corner kick prior to halftime.
  • Nick Wilke turned aside a pair of Mount Saint Mary attempts prior to the break.
 
Second Half
  • The game remained scoreless until the visitors struck twice just under three minutes apart early in the second half.
  • Owen Magee scored his first of the season in the 55th minute when he tucked a pass from Sean Campbell inside the near post at the 54:51 mark of the contest.
  • The Warriors doubled their lead at the 57:26 mark of the tilt when Keller Chamovitz roofed a pass from Christian Woobay to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Lycoming finished the second half with a 9-2 advantage in shots.
  • Corner kicks in the second half were even at 3-3.
 
For The Knights
  • Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.), Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Jake Kwong (Staten Island, N.Y.) all finished the night with a shot on goal.
  • Jaden Nelson (Staten Island, N.Y.) added the other shot in the game for the Knights.
  • Martinez closed his Mount Saint Mary debut with two saves for the Knights.
 
For The Warriors
  • Magee scored the eventual game winning goal and totaled two shots in the game.
  • Chamovitz also scored on one of his two attempts in the contest.
  • Woobay and Campbell each collected their first points of the season with assists.
  • Wilke picked up the shutout in goal with a trio of saves for the Warriors.
