Men’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Mount Saint Vincent

Esposito totals 10 points in victory

Newburgh, N.Y. – Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) recorded 10 points and Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) potted four goals as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team picked up its first conference win of the season and won for the third time in the last four games with an impressive 19-4 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's triumph improves Mount Saint Mary to 7-3 overall and evens its league record at 1-1. Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • For the second straight game, Mount Saint Mary carried a shutout into halftime, outscoring the Dolphins 10-0 in the opening 30 minutes.
  • The Knights got three first period tallies with Esposito assisting on two of the goals.
  • Mount Saint Mary erupted for seven goals in the second stanza, including three from Rodriguez. Esposito picked up two more assists in the period for the Mount.
  • Mount Saint Mary did not allow a goal until the early stages of the third quarter, but outscored the Dolphins 5-3 in the period. Rodriguez scored his fourth goal of the game in the third quarter with Esposito picking up a goal and another helper.
  • The Knights tacked on four more goals in the final frame, including a man-up goal from Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.).
  • Esposito finished off the fourth period with two goals of his own and an assist on the Olmstead marker.
 
For The Knights
  • Esposito finished the day with a hat trick and seven assists for 10 points. He became the sixth Knight in program history to reach double-figures in points in a game and his assist total is tied for the third highest single game total in the program's history. He finished off a strong all-around day with three groundballs.
  • Rodriguez led the scoring attack with four goals, adding a groundball and a caused turnover.
  • Olmstead tallied three times and collected six groundballs.
  • Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) rounded out the win with a goal and an assist.
  • Bobby DeSantis (Patchogue, N.Y.) went 14-for-19 in face-offs and led the team with nine groundballs.
  • Dennis Dowd (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) won five face-offs.
  • Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) anchored the defense with five caused turnovers and eight groundballs.
  • Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) forced three miscues.
  • Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.Y.) closed the day with two caused turnovers and three groundballs.
  • Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) earned the win with three saves in 30 minutes of work.
 
For The Dolphins
  • Joseph Santana scored two goals.
  • Patrick Nagy and Gio Jean-Pharuns each finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Jake Luxoro caused three turnovers and picked up two groundballs.
  • Aaron Smith won eight face-offs.
  • Sawyer Davis stopped 16 shots in goal and led the team with six groundballs.
