Men’s Lacrosse Eases To Skyline Victory At Purchase

Rodriguez nets five goals in victory

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team cruised to its third straight win and fourth win in the last five games on Tuesday with a 15-2 Skyline Conference victory at Purchase. Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) led the Mount Saint Mary scoring attack with five goals.
 
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 8-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Purchase dips below the .500 mark at 4-5 overall and to 0-3 against conference opponents.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested first quarter saw the Mount score two of the three goals in the period.
  • Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored his eighth of the season to open the scoring before Rodriguez broke a 1-1 tie with his first of the game with 24 seconds left in the opening frame.
  • The two sides traded goals to open the second quarter before the Knights tallied the final four goals of the quarter to carry a 6-2 advantage into halftime.
  • The second period featured four different goal scorers for the Mount with Rodriguez potting a pair of tallies.
  • After blanking each of its last two opponents prior to halftime, the Knights posted a goose egg after halftime on Tuesday.
  • The Mount scored four goals in each of the third and fourth periods.
  • Esposito scored and goal and assisted on two others in the third frame.
  • Rodriguez scored his fifth goal of the game in the fourth quarter and Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) scored his first goal of he season, a man-down tally, with 5:33 left in the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Nine different players scored at least one goal for the Mount.
  • Rodriguez posted his fourth straight multi-goal game and moved into second on the team in scoring with 17 tallies on the season.
  • Esposito scored twice and assisted on four goals to finish with a team-high six points. He added four groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) pushed his team lead in goals to 22 with a pair of markers.
  • Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Brian Schneider (Hicksville, N.Y.) each recorded a goal and an assist.
  • Bobby DeSantis (Patchogue, N.Y.) won seven face-offs and collected a team-high five groundballs.
  • DeSantis, Chris Montenegro (Fairfield, Conn.) and Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers.
  • Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) earned the win in goal with seven saves.
 
For The Panthers
  • Tom Goldman and Zach Collins each scored a goal.
  • Calvin Amaro went 11-for-19 in face-offs.
  • Riley Donovan caused three turnovers and picked up four groundballs.
  • Will Boes posted eight saves in goal.

  • Mount Saint Mary finished with a 37-18 advantage in shots, including a 23-9 edge in shots on goal.
