Baseball Earns Split At Mount Saint Vincent

Lutinski connects on grand slam in game two

Harrison, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued Skyline Conference play Saturday, splitting a road doubleheader at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Knights dropped game one 1-0 before rebounding for a convincing 13-1 game two victory.
 
Saturday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 9-12 overall on the season and to 5-5 in Skyline Conference play, while Mount Saint Vincent stands at 15-10 overall and 5-5 in league play.
 
Game 1: Mount Saint Vincent 1 – Mount Saint Mary 0
How It Happened
  • The opener featured just six hits, with each team recording three safeties.
  • The only run in the game came in the bottom of the first when Jake Blinstrub scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Dolphins recorded two of their three hits in the opening frame and loaded the bases with one out following an error.
  • The Knights would get a runner to scoring position four times in the game, but would not advance a runner to third.
 
For The Knights
  • Ben Crowley (Highland Mills, N.Y.), Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) all singled in the game.
  • Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss, allowing just one run on three hits in 5.0 innings. He struck out eight against just one walk.
  • Michael Di Tullio (Montgomery, N.Y.) worked a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one.
 
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 13 – Mount Saint Vincent 1 (F/7)
How It Happened
  • After being stifled in the opener, the Knights pounded out 12 hits in game two and broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth inning.
  • The Mount fell behind again in the bottom of the first, but responded in the second when Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk delivering Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) with the tying run.
  • The Knights broke the 1-1 tie in the fourth with eight tallies on four hits.
  • Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) singled home two runs with Marzigliano delivering a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) pushed the Knights in front 5-1 with a run scoring double.
  • Ryan Lutinski (Easton, Conn.) closed out the big inning, clubbing a grand slam with two-outs to give the Knights a 9-1 advantage.
  • Mount Saint Mary got back to work in the sixth, plating its final four runs on three hits.
  • Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in a run with a single with Nolasco adding a bases loaded hit by pitch to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Knights
  • Lutinski finished up game two 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and four RBI.
  • Merlin collected two hits and scored three runs.
  • Tait wrapped up the win 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
  • Nolasco doubled and drove in two runs.
  • Roper drove in two runs and scored a run.
  • Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) and Marzigliano each had a hit and an RBI.
  • Matthew Borriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) earned the win and moved to 3-2 on the season after working 6.0 innings. He allowed one run on six hits, fanning one.
  • Anthony Caminitti (Mahopac, N.Y.) working a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one.
