Baseball Edged Twice At Manhattanville

Nolasco posts two hits in opener

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team wrapped up a Skyline Conference weekend on Sunday afternoon at Manhattanville, dropping a pair of 2-1 decisions to the Valiants. Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) finished the opener with a pair of hits for the Knights.
 
Sunday's sweep drops Mount Saint Mary to 9-14 overall on the season and 5-7 in Skyline Conference play, while Manhattanville improves to 14-10 overall and 10-4 in conference competition.

How It Happened
  • The Knights grabbed a one run lead in the fourth, recording two of their five hits in the contest.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) laced a one-out double and scored a batter later when Nolasco delivered him with a run scoring single.
  • After advancing to second on the throw home and stealing third, Nolasco was stranded at third.
  • The one-run advantage held up until the home half of the fifth when the Valiants strung together three hits.
  • Michael Musantry tripled to start the inning and crossed with the tying run on a single off the bat of Tyler Viscusi.
  • Viscusi got to third with one out following a sacrifice and a single and scored the deciding run on a sacrifice fly.
  • The three hits in the inning where the only three safeties in the game for the Valiants.
  • Mount Saint Mary managed just one base runner in its final two at-bats.
 
For The Knights
  • Nolasco finished the opener 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Barnes recorded the team's only extra base hit and scored the lone run of the game.
  • Ben Crowley (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) each singled in the contest.
  • Mike Scotto (Putnam, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss, working a complete game. He fell to 1-2 on the season, allowing just two runs on three hits.

How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary jumped out in front for the second straight game on Sunday, plating its only run of the game in the third inning.
  • Roper singled ahead of a Crowley double to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) delivered the only run of the game for the Mount with a run scoring groundout.
  • The slim advantage held up until the seventh when the Valiants scored both of their runs on just one base hit.
  • Brian Bornkamp, who singled with one out in the inning, crossed with the tying run on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
  • Jake Parisi, who reached with a walk, later scored the eventual game winning run on a fielder's choice to close out the scoring in the game.
  • After scoring in the third, Mount Saint Mary recorded just three more hits in the contest and advanced just one runner into scoring position.
 
For The Knights
  • Six different Knights recorded a hit in the contest with Crowley and Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each ripping a double.
  • DiGiovanni finished with a hit and an RBI.
  • Roper recorded a hit and scored the team's only run.
  • Brian Gregory (Florida, N.Y.) was strong on the mound, working 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on just four hits.
  • Ryan Lockhart (Monroe Township, N.J.) and John Morehead (Highland Mills, N.Y.) combined for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary is scheduled to travel to Albertus Magnus on Wednesday.
  • Manhattanville plays host to Ramapo on Monday.
