Baseball Drops Midweek Contest At Vassar

Lutinski homers in loss

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued the 2022 season on Tuesday on the road at Vassar, falling to the Brewers by a score of 12-4. Ryan Lutinski (Easton, Conn.) finished the game with a home run and three RBI.
 
Tuesday's result moves both teams to 8-11 overall on the season.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar struck first in the game with single runs in the first and second innings to open a 2-0 lead. Ezra Capsi drove in a run with a single in the first with Adam Talwalker pushing the Brewers in front by two with a sacrifice fly in the second.
  • Mount Saint Mary sliced its deficit in half in the top of the fourth when Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) came home on a double steal attempt.
  • Vassar got the run back in the fifth and broke the game open with four runs in the sixth, two more in the seventh and a trio of runs in the eighth.
  • Caspi highlighted the sixth with a two-run single with Nick Greenhawt connecting on a home run in the seventh.
  • Lutinski launched a three-run home run in the top of the eighth to get the Mount to within 9-4.
  • Greenhawt blasted his second home run of the game in the home half of the eighth before Jack Story closed out the scoring in the game with a two-run single.
  • Vassar outhit the Mount 13-5 in the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Lutinski made the most of his only at-bat of the game, going 1-for-1 with a run scored and three RBI.
  • Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) finished up 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.
  • John Morehead (Highland Mills, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in a 2.0 inning start.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary returns to conference play with a trip to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.
  • Vassar hosts Union on Saturday.
