Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team will finish off the 2022 regular season with two Skyline Conference games when it hosts St. Joseph's-L.I. At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary is coming off a tight 10-7 home loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon and enters Tuesday's tilt with the Golden Eagles at 8-5 overall and 2-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights trail the Golden Eagles by a single game for a berth into the upcoming Skyline Conference Championship.
Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) begins the week just five points shy of 100 in his career and the leader in the Skyline Conference with 37 assists. He paces the Mount in helpers and chips in 11 goals for a team-high 48 points. In the midst of a strong all-around season, Esposito adds 29 groundballs and nine caused turnovers for the Mount.
Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) sits atop the team leaderboard in goals with 23 and is second on the squad with 35 points.
Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) and
Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.) support the offense with 19 and 17 goals, respectively.
Senior
Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) anchors the Mount's defense with 27 caused turnovers to go along with 43 groundballs, ranking fourth in the conference in caused miscues per contest.
Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) adds 22 forced turnovers and 25 groundballs, while
Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributes 19 caused turnovers and 21 groundballs.
Robert Root (Scotch Plains, N.J.) has won a team-high 52 face-offs for the Mount and collected 20 groundballs, while
Bobby DeSantis (Patchogue, N.Y.) has won 31 draws and scooped 26 groundballs.
In goal,
Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) has put together a stellar senior campaign and enters Tuesday's tilt with a 7.72 goals against average and a .558 save percentage while making 106 saves. He begins the week ranked second in the conference in goals against average and sixth in the league in save percentage.
Scouting St. Joseph's-L.I.: The Golden Eagles come calling on Tuesday with a 6-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Skyline Conference play. St. Joseph's has won each of its last two outings, topping Purchase 17-2 on Wednesday and Manhattanville 10-5 on Saturday.
Jack Gilbride has potted a team-high 31 goals and leads the team with 47 points, while Tim McCann supports the offensive attack with 21 tallies and 35 points. Gilbride and McCann have combined for 30 assists with Gilbride helping on a team-high 16 goals.
Nik Allen has forced 15 turnovers to date, tops on the team, and secured 39 groundballs, while Kyle Linsalata has forced 14 miscues and collected 14 groundballs.
Michael Carere has won a team-high 72 face-offs heading into Tuesday's contest and won a team-high 66 groundballs. Anthony Dibene chips in 52 face-off wins and has secured 53 groundballs for the Golden Eagles.
Andrew Brust has started all 11 games in goal and holds a 9.37 goals against average and a .613 save percentage. Brust has stopped 141 opponent shots to date which ranks fourth in the conference.
Recent History: Since 2017, the two teams have split four meetings. Mount Saint Mary won homes games in 2017 and 2018 with the Golden Eagles securing home victories in 2019 and 2021.
Previewing Maritime: The Privateers sit atop the Skyline Conference standings with a perfect 6-0 record and enter Saturday's contest with the Knights on a six-game winning streak and with an 8-7 overall record.
Parker Reilly has tallied a team-high 23 goals for Maritime, while John Killcommons leads the way with 32 points on the strength of 22 goals and 10 assists. Connor Tomich is tops on the team with 17 assists and is one of three players to register 28 points to date on the season.
Joe Keirnan paces the Privateers with 27 caused turnovers and 50 groundballs with Kieran Hendry forcing 14 miscues and securing 42 groundballs.
Rob Tracy has been victorious on 96 face-offs and picked up 33 groundballs with Thomas Pellicci winning 42 draws and securing 23 groundballs.
Jack Daresta and Michael Monahan have each seen significant time in goal with Daresta starting eight contests and seeing 469:49 worth of action and Monahan starting seven contests and paying 414:48. Daresta has stopped 98 shots and holds a 13.79 goals against average with Monahan sporting a 8.82 goals against average and a .596 save percentage while making 90 saves.
