Baseball Blanked At Bard

Marzigliano records three hits

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team returned to the diamond Sunday afternoon and fell on the road at Bard by a score of 7-0. Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) rounded out the victory with three of the team's eight hits.
 
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-5 overall on the season, while Bard improves to 3-2.
 
How It Happened
  • Bard got all the scoring it would need in the home half of the first inning, plating four runs in its first at-bat.
  • After the lead-off hitter struck out, the next three Raptors reached base in front of an Andrew Roberge grand slam.
  • Bard tacked on a single run in the third inning on a run scoring groundout from Jared Tobey following a leadoff double and stolen base from Alex Luscher.
  • The Raptors closed out the scoring in the game with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Luscher drove in Jordan Myers who reached on a one-out double ahead of a run scoring groundout off the bat of Tobey.
  • Mount Saint Mary outhit Bard in the game 8-6, but Bard recorded three extra base hits to just one for the Knights.
  • The Raptors swiped six bags in the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Marzigliano finished the contest 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) finished 1-for-2 with a walk, ripping his third double of the season.
  • Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded two base hits for the Knights.
  • Ryan Lutinski (Easton, Conn.) and Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each singled.
  • Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) suffered the loss on the mound and fell to 0-2 on the season. He worked 4.0 innings, surrendering five runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out three.
 
For The Raptors
  • Luscher closed the win 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and an RBI.
  • Roberge recorded two hits, including the grand slam, adding a run and four RBI.
  • Myers posted a hit and a run scored in the victory.
  • Spencer Checkoway earned his first win of the season with 7.0 strong innings of work. He struck out 10 and walked just two.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary is scheduled to host Albertus Magnus Wednesday.
  • Bard host Cobleskill in a doubleheader on March 12.
