Men’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Lasell

Green Wright scores in final minute to lift MSMC

Newton, Mass. – Maxwell Green Wright (Central Islip, N.Y.) scored with 37 seconds left in regulation and capped a five-goal fourth quarter as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team won its second straight game to open the season with a 12-11 come-from-behind win over Lasell Saturday afternoon.
 
Saturday's win gives Mount Saint Mary two straight victories to begin a season for the first time since 2016 while Lasell remains winless in three outings to start the 2022 campaign.
 
How It Happened
  • Lasell scored four of the first five goals of the game before a Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) tally with 3:35 left in the opening period brought the Knights to within 4-2 after 15 minutes.
  • Mount Saint Mary went on to score the first two goals of the second frame to knot the score, with Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.) and Martin scoring in the first 1:10 of the frame for the Knights.
  • The Lasers went on to score four of the final five goals of the frame to carry an 8-5 lead into the intermission.
  • Coming out of halftime, the two teams alternated goals and split four tallies with Bash Cunningham tallying for Lasell at the 5:16 mark of the third to give the Lasers a 10-7 advantage through 45 minutes of play.
  • Mount Saint Mary dominated the fourth period, scoring five of the six goals, including the final two in the last 4:37 of regulation.
  • Nick Gurello (Selden, N.Y.), Sean Mueller (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Mike Travers (Staten Island, N.Y.) all scored in the first six minutes of the final frame to knot the score at 10-10.
  • Anthony DeRosa pushed Lasell back in front at the 5:18 mark of the final period.
  • Xavier Rodriguez (Hackettstown, N.J.) brought the Mount even at the 4:37 mark of the fourth before Green Wright potted the game winner with 37 ticks left on the fourth quarter clock.
For The Knights
  • Martin finished off a five-point game with four goals and an assist for the Mount.
  • Gurello scored two goals.
  • Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Mueller each assisted on a pair of goals.
  • Robert Root (Scotch Plains, N.J.) went 17-for-21 in face-offs and led the team with nine groundballs.
  • Carmine Comitini (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the way with four caused turnovers.
  • Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) picked up his second win of the season with seven saves in goal.
 
For The Lasers
  • DeRosa finished with a hat trick and four points.
  • Cunningham and Ryan Stone each scored twice with Stone totaling four points.
  • Tyler Rose collected six groundballs and caused a trio of turnovers.
  • Steven Phelps won five face-offs.
  • Alex Beauchemin made eight saves in the loss.

  • Mount Saint Mary finished with a 36-32 advantage in shots on the day.
  • Groundballs went to Lasell 32-31.
