Men’s Lacrosse Edged At FDU-Florham

Esposito, Martin posts two points apiece

Madison, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its second straight loss on Wednesday night, dropping a hard fought 5-4 decision on the road at FDU-Florham. Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Colby Martin (Huntington, N.Y.) each finished the contest with two points.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-2 overall on the season while the Devils improve to 2-4 through six games.
 
How It Happened
  • The Devils got off to a quick start with the only two goals in the opening 15 minutes. Michael Stewart scored just over a minute in and then again at the 5:41 mark of the opening period to give FDU the two-goal advantage.
  • Mount Saint Mary answered with the next two goals to knot the score at 2-2. Ryan Olmstead (Millbrook, N.Y.) got the Knights on the board at the 13:18 mark of the second frame and Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) evened the score at the 8:30 mark of the period.
  • The Devils came back with their only goal of the second quarter, a Brendan Fabin marker with 2:50 left before halftime, to send the Devils into the intermission with a 3-2 advantage.
  • The two teams split two third quarter goals with Sean Mueller (Pleasantville, N.Y.) potting a man-up tally in the middle stages of the frame to even the score at 3-3.
  • Stewart struck with his third goal of the game with 35 seconds left in the third period to give the Devils a 4-3 advantage with 15 minutes left to play.
  • FDU spread its lead to 5-3 on a Drew Gallagher marker with 10:08 left in regulation time, matching the team's largest advantage of the game.
  • Mount Saint Mary got a goal closer when Martin found the back of the net with 6:27 left to play, but the Knights were unable to find the equalizer.
 
For The Knights
  • Martin scored his team leading 14th goal of the season and pushed his team lead in points to 21. He added an assist, two groundballs and a caused turnover for the Knights.
  • Esposito assisted on a pair of tallies for the Mount, moving his team lead in the category to 12.
  • Olmstead, Mueller and Frank provided the other tallies for the Mount with Olmstead adding two groundballs and a pair of caused miscues.
  • Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the team with five groundballs and added two caused turnovers.
  • Sean Nertney (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scooped four groundballs.
  • Matthew Esposito (Manorville, N.Y.) led the Knights with three caused turnovers.
  • Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) went 8-for-11 in face-offs and picked up two groundballs.
  • Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) finished the contest with 13 saves in goal.
 
For The Devils
  • Stewart finished the victory with three goals and four points, adding two caused turnovers.
  • Gallagher and Fabin each posted a goal and an assist with Gallagher securing five groundballs.
  • MacGyver Hay led all players with seven groundballs and four caused turnovers.
  • Dan Schlupp made seven saves in goal.

  • FDU-Florham finished with a 30-22 advantage in shots and an 18-11 edge in shots on goal.
  • Groundballs went to the Devils 35-31.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished with an 8-3 advantage in face-offs.
