Men’s Lacrosse Topped By Wentworth

Mueller totals three points

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to the visiting Leopards of the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a score of 14-6. Six different Knights finished with a goal with Sean Mueller (Pleasantville, N.Y.) recording a team-high three points.
 
Saturday's loss stops the Mount's four-game winning streak to start the season and drops it to 4-1 overall on the year. Wentworth improves to 4-3 through seven contests.
 
How It Happened
  • The Leopards opened a 3-1 lead following a Nick Gore tally with just under three minutes left in the opening frame.
  • Trailing by two goals, the Knights got markers from Brian Schneider (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Mueller in the final 1:47 of the frame to even the tilt at 3-3.
  • Wentworth responded with a Sam Prunier goal with five ticks left in the opening stanza to grab a 4-3 lead and move in front for good in the game.
  • The Leopards potted the first two goals of the second frame to move in front 6-3 and after Kaleb Pullis (Selden, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season, got a tally from Jared Hiller to carry a 7-4 advantage into halftime.
  • Matt Wodka (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) got the Knights to within two goals with his first of the season in the opening minute of the third period, but that would be as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way.
  • Following the Wodka tally, Wentworth scored the final five goals of the third quarter and the first two goals of the fourth period to open a 14-5 lead.
  • Larry Frank (Staten Island, N.Y.) stopped the scoring run with this fourth goal of the season with just under two minutes left to play to bring the Knights to within the final eight-goal decision.
 
For The Knights
  • Mueller scored once and assisted on a pair of goals to move his point total on the season to 13, good for second on the team.
  • Schneider, Wodka and Chris Maggio (Valley Stream, N.Y.) all scored their first goals of the season.
  • Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) assisted on two goals, moving his team lead in the category to 10.
  • Maggio led the team with five groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Joseph Angelillo (Pompton Plains, N.J.) caused a team-high three turnovers for the Knights and added a trio of groundballs.
  • Anthony Paggiotta (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won five face-offs and scooped three groundballs.
  • Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) finished with six saves in just over 51 minutes of work in goal.
 
For The Leopards
  • Jared Hiller netted a hat trick and added a pair of assists for a five-point afternoon. He added five groundballs.
  • Prunier, Erik Vogt, Gore, Erik Madden and Calvin McKenna all scored twice with Madden adding a pair of assists.
  • Danny Bartosiewicz rounded out the win with seven caused turnovers and six groundballs.
  • Connor Charron went 18-for-23 in face-offs and picked up 14 groundballs.
  • Jack Munroe stopped seven shots in goal in just shy of 59 minutes of work.
 
Game Statistics
  • Wentworth held the advantage in shots 48-18.
  • Groundballs went to the Leopards 50-24.
  • Wentworth controlled the face-off 'x' 19-5.
  • Mount Saint Mary went 21-for-29 in clearing chances.
  • Wentworth finished 14-for-15 in clears.
