Newburgh, N.Y. – The two top teams throughout the Skyline Conference season will meet on Saturday afternoon in the Skyline Conference Championship Final for the second time in the last three championships when second seeded USMMA visits the Kaplan Center to take on the top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team. At Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters Saturday's Final on a 10-game winning streak following a hard fought 63-57 semifinal win over Manhattanville Thursday night. The victory improved Mount Saint Mary to 22-3 overall on the season.
After leading all scorers on Thursday with 19 points,
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) leads the Knights in scoring on the season with 18.3 points per game on 46-percent shooting. Bojka adds 8.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) checks in with 12.4 points per game following a 10-point performance on Thursday, and leads the team with 2.9 assists per game. Smith shoots 49.6-percent from the floor overall and 38.6-percent from three-point range.
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) produced nine points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five blocks in Thursday's victory and enters Saturday's contest averaging 9.3 caroms, 7.8 points and 1.0 blocks per tilt.
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) hit two big three-pointers in a 16-pointer performance in the semifinal and is good for 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 steals per outing.
Mount Saint Mary scores 75.8 points per game through 25 contests and shoots 39.9-percent overall, 30.1-percent from three-point range and 63.6-percent from the free-throw line.
Scouting USMMA: The Mariners battled past the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday 62-54 and enter Saturday's final winners of three straight games and with a 21-5 overall record.
Grace Jackson fills the stat sheet for the Mariners, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and blocked shots. Jackson is good for 19.7 points on 40.5-percent shooting and averages a double-double wit 10.4 rebounds per night. Jackson is also the team's top rim protector, posting better than a block per game for the Mariners and hands out three helpers a contest.
Madison Demos leads the team with just over 11 rebounds per outing and chips in just about nine points per game. Julia Dahlke hands out nearly three assists per tilt while scoring 8.0 points and grabbing just over three rebounds.
The Mariners score just 62.1 points per game as a unit, but allow only 50 to their opponents. USMMA shoots 35.5-percent overall as a team, 24.2-percent from three-point range and 69-percent from the free-throw line.
Regular Season Meetings: The Knights swept the regular season series, winning 57-44 on the road on December 16 before posting a 69-49 victory at the Kaplan Center on February 9.
In the road win, the Knights knocked down 11 three-pointers and were led by 13 points from Smith. Desrats added 11 points for the Mount and
Ciarra Quinn (Bayside, N.Y.) provided 10 tallies. Keenan cleaned up 10 rebounds for the Knights.
In the February home victory, Mount Saint Mary held USMMA to 30-percent shooting with
Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) coming off the bench to provide a career-high 16 points. Keenan finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
Tale Of The Tape: Mount Saint Mary enters Saturday's final second in the conference in scoring, while the Mariners are the top defensive team in the league.
Mount Saint Mary ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage and second in three-point percentage and three-pointers made per game. The Mariners lead the league in opponent field goal percentage and sit third in opponent three-point field goal percentage.
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary has come out on top in 11 of the 12 meetings in the head-to-head series with the Mariners since the start of the 2016-17 season with the lone loss coming in the 2019 Skyline Championship Final.
As the second seed in 2019, USMMA posted a 44-39 victory over the Mount, holding the Knights to 25.8-percent shooting. Both teams would appear in the NCAA Tournament that season, with the Mariners earning the league's berth and the Mount collecting a Pool C selection.
Recent Skyline Conference Championship History: The Knights have earned the top seed in the conference championship in each of the last four seasons and have advanced to the championship final in three of the last four years there has been a tournament.
USMMA is in search of its third straight conference crown, winning previously in 2019 and 2020.
Mount Saint Mary won 10 straight Skyline Conference crowns from 2000-09 and has won 12 league titles in total with the last coming in 2012.
