Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Yeshiva

Four Knights net double-figures in victory

New York, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team rebounded from a non-conference loss at Union on Sunday with an impressive 86-59 road conference win at Yeshiva Tuesday night. Four Knights scored in double-figures in the triumph, led by 11 points from Charlotte Twohig (Syosset, N.Y.) and Kaeli McAnally (Bay Shore, N.Y.).
 
Tuesday's win improves the Mount's overall record to 4-2 and its league mark to 2-0 with Yeshiva dropping to 1-4 overall and 1-3 against Skyline Conference rivals.
 
First Half
  • A tightly contested first period saw the Knights hold a slim 19-18 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
  • Yeshiva held the led on four occasions over the first period, including at 18-16 on a Shai Rahamim three-pointer with 68 seconds left in the frame.
  • Following the Rahamim triple, the Knights got a three-point play from Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) to grab the one-point lead heading into the second stanza.
  • The Knights never trailed after gaining the lead late in the first quarter and pushed its lead to double-figures on a pair of Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) free-throws with 5:32 left before halftime.
  • The Mount's lead ballooned to 38-20 on a Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) bucket with 4:29 left in the second frame.
  • Th advantage reached 20 points, at 43-23, on a Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) triple with 1:24 left in the period.
  • Mount Saint Mary carried a commanding 45-23 advantage into the intermission following a Hughes jumper with 15 seconds left before the break.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the opening period shooting 42.5-percent overall and connected on five three-pointers.
  • Yeshiva was held to 38.1-percent shooting over the first two stanzas and a 2-for-7 effort from three-point range.
  • 10 different Knights scored in the first half, led by seven points apiece from Desrats and E. Smith.
  • Rahamim led all players at the break with nine points for the Maccabees.
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary kept its advantage over Yeshiva at 19 points or better throughout the second half.
  • A Casey Love (Staten Island, N.Y.) three-pointer with 4:05 left in the third frame moved the Mount in front 59-32.
  • A Cailean Nolan (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) triple in the closing seconds of the third frame sent the Knights into the fourth period with a 66-41 advantage.
  • Rahamim brought the Maccabees to within 75-56 with a bucket at the 3:55 mark of the fourth quarter, but the Mount responded with back-to-back three-pointers from McAnally and Katelyn McCann (Blooming Grove, N.Y.) to push the advantage back to 81-56.
  • A Twohig trey in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter gave the Knights the final 86-59 advantage.
  • The Knights closed the second half shooting 36.4-percent overall, but connected on seven three-pointers.
  • Yeshiva improved to 46.4-percent shooting and hit on four of its eight triple tries.
  • Nolan led the Mount with 10 seconds half points.
  • Yuval NItzan led all players with 15 points after the break for Yeshiva.
 
For The Knights
  • Twohig scored in double-figures for the second straight game, totaling 11 points on the strength of a 3-for-7 effort from three-point range. She added two rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • McAnally netted a career-high 11 points, going 4-for-6 from the floor with three triples, while adding seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
  • Guglielmo reached double-figures for the second time this season with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting. She closed the night with five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Nolan also reached double-figures for the second time this season, connecting on a pair of second half three-pointers.
  • E. Smith came off the bench to score nine points.
  • Desrats led the team with six assists and chipped in seven points.
  • McCann closed the night with five points, four assists and three rebounds.
 
For The Maccabees
  • Rahamim led all players in the game with 22 points, going 7-ffor-11 from the floor and 4-for-6 from three-point range. She rounded out the night with a game-high seven assists.
  • Nitzan totaled 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Daniella Rothman led all players with 12 rebounds.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary converted at 39.3-percent from the floor overall and connected on a season-high 12 three-point field goals.
  • Yeshiva shot 42.9-percent overall but made 12 fewer field goals than the Knights in 35 fewer attempts.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored Yeshiva in the paint 36-18.
  • The Mount defense forced 27 turnovers and closed the night with a 32-6 advantage in points off of turnovers.

  • Mount Saint Mary travels to league rival St. Joseph's-L.I. Saturday afternoon.
  • Yeshiva heads to Manhattanville on Thursday.
