Women’s Soccer Tripped Up By Mount Saint Vincent

Hansen scores fifth goal of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team fell at home against Mount Saint Vincent Tuesday night, by a score of 2-1. Kaitlin Hansen (Port Jervis, N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of the season in the loss.

Tuesday night's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 3-8-2 overall and 3-2-1 in Skyline Conference play. Meanwhile, the win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in league action, while also scoring the Dolphins their first ever win over the Knights.

First Half

  • · Mount Saint Mary let off three shots to start off the game before they were able to find the back of the goal.
  • · At the 18:17 mark, Hansen collected a pass from Emma Mihale (Oceanside, N.Y.) and buried it in the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead, which they would take into intermission.
  • · The Knights outshot the Dolphins 7-2 in the first 45 minutes.
  • · Mount Saint Mary led the half in corner kicks with a 7-0 advantage.
  • · Fouls were whistled against the Knights 4-1.
  • · Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made one save in goal for the Knights, while Javiera Sanchez made four for the Dolphins.

Second Half

  • · Mount Saint Vincent wasted almost no time in knotting the game up 1-1.
  • · At the 48:47 mark, Alicia Rodriguez handled the pass from Amanda Cotroneo, and she would pot her sixth of the season to tie the game.
  • · Twenty minutes later, the Dolphins would strike again. Alicia Rodriguez sent a pass towards the foot of Victoria Gamarra, and she was able to get it by Kakavas to push Mount Saint Vincent in front 2-1.
  • · Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) let off a shot in the 77th minute that looked like it may tie the game at two apiece, but it banged off the crossbar to keep the Mount Saint Vincent lead intact, and that's how it would remain for the remainder of the match.
  • · The Knights were outshot 6-3 in the second half.
  • · Fouls went against Mount Saint Mary 7-4 after halftime.

For The Knights

  • · Hansen scored her fifth goal of the year, and her third over the past four games.
  • · Mihale's assist moves her into a tie for the team lead in assists with three.
  • · Kakavas made three stops in goal, moving her save total to 24.

For The Dolphins

  • · Rodriguez's scored her sixth goal of the season, while Gamarra scored her third.
  • · Sanchez's five saves move her total to 23 for the year.

Match Statistics

  • · Mount Saint Mary outshot Mount Saint Vincent 10-8, including 6-5 in shots on target.
  • · Corner kicks were one sided, as the Knights had eight to the Dolphins zero.
  • · Fouls went against Mount Saint Mary 11-5 in the contest.
