Knights Sweep Purchase On Senior Day

Riddle totals 14 kills, eight aces

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team got back into the win column Saturday afternoon with an impressive 25-11, 25-14, 25-12 Skyline Conference sweep over Purchase. Prior to the match the Mount honored Krista Gross (East Northport, N.Y.), Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) and Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) on Senior Day.
 
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 10-12 overall on the season and 5-3 in Skyline play, while Purchase falls to 3-16 overall and 2-7 against league rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • The Knights hit .367 with 13 kills in the first set to grab the one set advantage.
  • The Mount used an 8-0 run to open a 12-4 advantage that featured five service aces from Riddle.
  • The Panthers would manage consecutive points just three more times over the rest of the opening stanza.
  • Back-to-back kills from Riddle and Mary Milano (East Patchogue, N.Y.) finished off the first set for the Knights.
  • The Mount recorded just eight kills in the middle frame, but was able to take advantage of eight Purchase attack errors.
  • A 9-1 run helped the Knights overcome an early 3-0 deficit ad secure the lead for good in the set.
  • Riddle put away two kills over the run with Cammarata posting a pair of service aces.
  • A four-point run late in the set consisting of three Purchase errors pushed the Mount in front 19-8.
  • The Knights grabbed a two-set advantage with a 3-0 closing run in the second frame, keyed by kills from Milano and Cammarata.
  • Mount Saint Mary put the match away with 12 kills in the third, hitting .296 as a team.
  • Six straight points in the early going moved the Mount in front 9-3.
  • A Riddle service ace moved the Knights in front 18-9.
  • Kills from Mackenzie Warmoth (Wallingford, Conn.) and Brooke Lavelle (Staten Island, N.Y.) sparked a 3-0 closing run that finished off the sweep.
For The Knights
  • Riddle, the all-time kill leader at the Mount, finished the victory with 14 winners while hitting .481. Riddle added a career-high eight service aces to go along with three assists and four digs.
  • Romano hit .364 with five kills, posting two aces and three digs.
  • Milano chipped in four kills, a block and four digs.
  • Cammarata closed out the day with 22 assists, four kills, six digs and a pair of aces.
  • Gross added nine digs and a service ace.
  • Jenna Cullinan (Levittown, N.Y.) led all players in the match with 10 digs.
 
For The Panthers
  • Samantha Fasce paced the Panthers with seven kills, adding five digs and a block.
  • Karina Medina handed out 16 assists, recorded one assist and lifted six digs.
  • Lauren White led the way with eight digs.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary rounded out the win with a commanding 33-18 advantage in kills and hit .286 as a team.
  • The Knights controlled the service game with a 14-3 advantage in aces.
  • Total team blocks in the contest were even at 1-1.
 
What's Next
  • The Knights travel to Old Westbury for a match with the Panthers on Sunday evening.
