Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team traveled to Danzi Stadium Saturday for a conference tilt with St. Joseph's L.I. and the two sides tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of action. Victoria Maffettone (Sayville, N.Y.) scored her fourth goal of the season for Mount Saint Mary.
Saturday's draw sends the Mount to 5-10-3 overall and 5-3-3 in league action, while the Golden Eagles move to 6-4-4 overall and 5-3-2 against conference opponents.
First Half
- Outside of the Mount Saint Mary goal, the first half was a defensive battle, with both sides combining for just six total shots.
- Maffetone's goal was unassisted at the 13:58 mark in the first half to put the Mount up 1-0, the score that would remain through intermission.
- The shots were an even 3-3 through the first 45 minutes of action.
- Corner kicks went to Mount Saint Mary 3-0 in the prior to intermission.
- Fouls were whistled against the Knights 2-0 before the break.
Second Half
- The second half was more active offensively than the first, but it led to just a single score.
- Alyssa Schimmenti received a pass from Carli LoNigro in the box in the 79th minute, and Schimmenti buried it in the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1, where it would finish.
- The Golden Eagles outshot the Knights by a wide margin of 8-3 after half.
- Corner kicks also flipped, with the Golden Eagles holding a 4-0 edge after the break.
- Fouls during the final 45 minutes were whistled against the Knights 3-2.
For The Knights
- Maffetone's first half goal was her fourth of the season and she now has three straight games with a goal.
- Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was excellent in goal, recording eight stops and lowering her goals-against average to 3.24.
For The Golden Eagles
- Schimmenti's goal was her fifth of the season for the Golden Eagles.
- Gloria Arango made three saves in goal for St. Joseph's L.I.
