Newburgh, N.Y. – In a game with big playoff implications, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Manhattanville Tuesday night. Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored in the second half to record his fourth goal of the season.
Wednesday's tie moves the Mount to 6-5-4 overall and 4-2-3 in conference play, while the Valiants are now 7-4-4 overall and 5-1-3 against conference rivals.
First Half
- The first half was mostly a defensive battle, outside of the lone goal that came in the 14th minute.
- Eli Pardo handled a feed from Kendall Davis at the 13:39 mark and was able to get it past the keeper to give Manhattanville a 1-0 edge early in the contest.
- That was also the Valiants lone shot, as the Mount would outshoot them 6-1 before the break.
- Corner kicks went in the Knights favor 2-0 prior to intermission.
- Fouls were whistled against the Mount 6-5 in the first half.
Second Half
- The second half featured more offense than the first, including when Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Rob Kaufman (Mullica Hill, N.J.) each sent a nice-looking shot at the net in the 47th minute, but Manhattanville keeper Luis Granados made a pair of leaping saves to keep the score in favor of the Valiants.
- At the 56:42 mark, Chris Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit Doyle in front of the net and he would knock it in with his head to knot the score at 1-1, where it would finish.
- Manhattanville out shot the Mount 8-5 after intermission.
- Corner kicks were an even 2-2 in the second half.
- Fouls were called against Mount Saint Mary 7-6 in the final 45 minutes.
For The Knights
- Doyle tallied his fourth goal of the campaign.
- Maggi extended his point streak to seven consecutive games with his assist and moved into a tie for the team lead with 17 points.
- Doyle and Maggi each recorded four shots, with Maggi totaling three shots on goal.
- Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) made two stops in goal for the Knights.
For The Valiants
- Pardo scored his first goal of the season for Manhattanville.
- Kendall Davis was credited with the helper on Pardo's score.
- Granados made six stops in the net for Manhattanville.
