Mount Saint Mary Overwhelms Maritime On Senior Day

Seven different Knights tally in victory

Newburgh, N.Y. – Seven different players scored a goal and nine different players produced at least one point as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team picked up its first home win of the season with an impressive 9-1 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, the Knights honored the three members of their senior class: Julia Accetura (Prospect, Conn.), Marilena Mangiaracina (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.).
 
Saturday's victory gets the Knights back into the win column and improves them to 3-7-2 overall and 3-1-1 in league play, while Maritime falls to 3-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in league action.
 
First Half
  • The Mount wasted little time getting on the board with Angie Mainiero (Vineland, N.J.) scoring just under 10 minutes into the game. She buried a centering feed from Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) at 9:43 to open the scoring.
  • Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up her second goal of the season in the 29th minute when she converted a penalty kick to push the Knights in front 2-0.
  • Mount Saint Mary struck twice more late in the first half to carry a 4-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Amanda DeVito (Massapequa, N.Y.) potted her first of the season, finishing off a passing play from McGowan and Victoria Maffettone (Sayville, N.Y.) in the 42nd minute.
  • The final goal of the half came off the foot of Maffetone when she converted a sequence from McGowan and Kate Bazylewicz (Farmingdale, N.Y.) at the 43:24 mark of the tilt.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the opening 45 minutes with a 16-1 advantage in shots.
  • First half corner kicks went to the Mount 6-0.
 
Second Half
  • The Knights scored five more times after halftime to pull away for the victory.
  • After Maritime converted a penalty kick to pull to within 4-1 early in the second half, McGowan received a through ball from Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) and buried her second of the game at 49:38 to give the Knights a 5-1 advantage.
  • Mangiaracina got on the board with her first goal of the season in the 59th minute on a penalty kick to expand the lead to 6-1.
  • Baldwin scored her first of two second half goals at 64:31 when she moved the lead to 7-1 after finishing off a pass from Mary Langan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.).
  • Kaitlin Hansen (Port Jervis, N.Y.) picked up her team leading fourth goal of the season at 73:13 on an unassisted goal, the Mount's eighth of the contest.
  • Baldwin closed out the scoring in the game when she finished off a rebound from a Hansen shot to give the Knights the final 9-1 advantage at 79:11.
  • Mount Saint Mary took 12 more shots after halftime.
  • The Knights took seven more corner kicks in the second half.
 
For The Knights
  • The Mount scored a season-high nine goal in the contest.
  • Baldwin finished a five-point game with the first two goals of her career and an assist.
  • McGowan totaled six points in the tilt, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals.
  • Maffetone and Hansen each finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Maffetone, Mangiaracina, Bazylewicz, Langan and Quinones all recorded their first points of the season.
  • Baldwin led the team with six shots in the game.
  • Mainiero, Hansen and Zecca all recorded four attempts.
 
For The Privateers
  • Kathryn Sandford scored on a penalty kick for her sixth goal of the season.
  • Sandford and Anya Josberger each finished with a shot.
  • Emily Commodore made five saves in goal for Maritime.

  • Mount Saint Mary held a commanding 28-2 advantage in shots, including a 14-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Knights finished with a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
