Knights Cruise To Fourth Straight Victory

Desrats leads balanced scoring attack with 15 points

Bronxville, N.Y. – Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) led five players in double-figures with 15 points as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team cruised to its fourth straight win and remained unbeaten in league play with an impressive 90-43 road win at Sarah Lawrence.
 
Tuesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 8-2 overall on the season and to a perfect 6-0 in and conference play. The Knights also moved to 7-0 against the Gryphons since the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
 
First Half
  • The Knights outscored Sarah Lawrence 51-21 over the opening 20 minutes, holding a 25-12 lead after the first quarter and besting the Gryphons 26-9 in the second stanza.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 55.6-percent over the opening 10 minutes, going 10-for-18 from the floor, and followed that up with a 47.6-percent effort in the second period.
  • The Knights raced out to an 11-2 advantage following a Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) bucket with 6:37 left in the first period and pushed the lead to 18-4 following a pair of Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) free-throws with just over four minutes left in the frame.
  • A Desrats triple with 2:57 left in the opening quarter gave the Knights a 21-15 advantage before the Gryphons scored the next six points.
  • Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and Desrats converted buckets in the final 1:20 of the first quarter to five the Knights the 13-point cushion after 10 minutes.
  • Mount Saint Mary scored the first 18 points of the second stanza to bust open a 31-point lead with 5:04 left before halftime.
  • Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) scored eight points over the opening run for the Knights.
  • The Knights held the Gryphons off the board until the 4:48 mark of the second and allowed just two field goals in the frame.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 51.3-percent overall before halftime, connecting on a trio of three-pointers, and went 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.
  • Sarah Lawrence was held to 22.6-percent shooting and turned the ball over 17 times in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) paced the Knights in the first half with 13 points.
  • Smith chipped in 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting, adding three rebounds, three assists and four steals.
 
Second Half
  • The Mount never let its lead slip below 28 points in the second half and opened a 46-point advantage, at 75-29, on a Hughes jumper with 1:50 left in the third quarter.
  • The Knights' advantage ballooned to a game-high 49 points with 5:50 left in the fourth period when Alyssa Caswell (Fishkill, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper to give the Knights an 83-34 lead.
  • 11 different players scored in the second half for the Knights.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 42.9-percent after halftime and connected on three of its 14 three-point attempts.
  • Sarah Lawrence was limited to 26.5-percent shooting and a 4-for-13 effort from three-point range.
  • Bojka led the Knights after halftime with seven points, going 3-for-6 from the floor.
 
For The Knights
  • Desrats wrapped up the win 7-for-13 from the floor on her way to a team-high 15 points. She added two rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals to the winning effort.
  • Smith finished up 7-for-10 from the floor on her way to 14 points and chipped in four assists, four rebounds and four steals
  • Bojka rounded out the night 6-for-12 from the floor, scoring 14 points. Bojka led all players with six assists, adding seven rebounds and four steals.
  • Keenan finished up a strong night with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a game-high five steals.
  • Tabasco totaled 10 points for the Mount to go along with five rebounds, three blocked shots and a pair of steals.
  • In all 12 different players reached the scoring column in the victory.
 
For The Gryphons
  • Kumi Tamura equaled the game-high with 15 points, adding four rebounds and three assists.
  • Kendall Haymore led all players with 15 rebounds.
  • Demitra Loukopoulos and Isabel Garren each finished with nine points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 46.9-percent overall in the game while Sarah Lawrence was limited to 24.6-percent.
  • Mount Saint Mary dominated the paint with a 58-12 edge inside, including an 18-0 advantage in the second quarter.
  • Mount Saint Mary forced 28 turnovers leading to a 32-6 advantage in points off of miscues.

  • Mount Saint Mary is scheduled to host Farmingdale State on Thursday with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
  • Sarah Lawrence is set to travel to Old Westbury for a Thursday evening contest with the Panthers.
