Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returns to action Friday when it plays the first of three matches at New Paltz as part of the Hawks Invitational. The Knights will tangle with the host Hawks Friday evening before taking on Sage and Alfred to round out the weekend on Saturday. At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a 2-1 weekend at Keuka, scoring straight set victories over both Wells and Hilbert.
Four Knights produced at least 10 kills on the weekend, led by 21 from
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.). Riddle rounded out a big tournament with 10 service aces and 21 digs.
Freshman
Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) began her collegiate career with 18 kills, 12 aces and 27 digs with
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) posting 18 winners and 14 digs, good for 4.10 digs per stanza.
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) supported the offensive attack with 10 kills and 60 assists, averaging an even 6.0 helpers per frame.
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) lifted 35 digs, averaging just shy of four per set.
Mount Saint Mary is hitting .086 through the season's first three matches and has controlled the service game with a 36-21 advantage in aces over its opponents. Mount Saint Mary has 10 total team blocks thus far with Hydo leading the team with three.
A Look At New Paltz: The Hawks enter Friday's match searching for their first win of the season. Most recently, New Paltz went winless in four tries at the Johnson and Wales Tournament.
Letisha Perez leads the way with 29 kills with Cate DiGiacomo handing out a team-high 86 assists. Mia Wadell has lifted a team-high 44 digs with Victoria Konicki posting a team-high five total blocks.
Scouting Sage: Old Skyline Conference foe Sage enters the weekend with a 1-3 overall and is coming off an 0-3 weekend at the Morrisville State Tournament.
Celia Gagnon and Emma Parkington have each recorded 32 kills to lead the team with Gagnon adding a team-high 13 service aces. Elaina Moisidis has lifted 61 digs, good for nearly four per set, while Monalissa Carius joins Gagnon with a team-high eight total blocks.
Previewing Alfred: The Saxons enter the start of the Hawks Invitational on Friday with a 1-3 after going 1-2 during their home tournament last weekend.
Honor Edamands has put away a team-high 27 kills, averaging better than two per set, and also sits atop the team leaderboard in service aces with nine and blocks with four. Darian Ortiz holds the team lead in digs with 61, lifting nearly five per frame, with Lucy McCredie handing out 58 assists, averaging 5.8 helpers per set..
Recent History: Against New Paltz, the Knights are winless in eight outings since the 2008 season. The Mount holds a 4-12 record against Sage dating back to 2007, with the last win over the Gators coming on November 8, 2014. In three previous meetings with Alfred, the Knights have two victories, topping the Saxons in 2012 and 2018.
What's Next: Following a busy weekend, the Mount will travel to SUNY Delhi on September 14 to take on the Broncos.
