Knights Drop Home Opener To Middlebury

Decker makes four stops in goal

Newburgh, N.Y. – Playing on the Kaplan Field turf for the first time since the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Final, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team suffered a 6-0 non-conference loss to visiting Middlebury on Tuesday afternoon. Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) finished the tilt with four saves for the Knights.
 
Tuesday result drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-2 overall on the season, while Middlebury improves to 1-0 with its season opening victory.
 
First Half
  • The Panthers controlled the first 45 minutes, holding a 14-1 advantage in shots.
  • Nathan Pilson scored the eventual game winning goal for the visitors in the 34th minute.
  • Jordan Saint-Louis scored his first of two goals in the game on a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
  • Jonah Roberts finished off the scoring in the opening period just under three minutes later off a feed from Eujin Chae.
  • Middlebury finished with a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks prior to halftime.
  • Decker rounded out the first half with a pair of saves for the Knights.
 
Second Half
  • Middlebury picked up the scoring again in the second half when Brandon Berry scored just under three minutes into the second half.
  • Saint-Louis potted his second goal of the game in the 49th minute with Charles Sakouvogui finishing off a pass from Tyler Payne at 88:04 to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Middlebury posted an 11-2 advantage in shots in the second half and took all five corner kicks in the half.
  • Decker stopped two more shots in the final stanza.
 
For The Knights
  • Decker made four saves in a game for the second straight outing.
  • Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded two shots, including one shot on goal for the Knights.
  • Ismael Bravo (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded the only other shot for the Mount in the game.
For Middlebury
  • Barry led the Panthers with five shots in the game, scoring once.
  • Saint Louis scored his first two goals of the season on three shots on goal in the game.
  • The Panthers showed six different players with at least two shots in the game.
