Knights Score Straight Set Victory At Ramapo

Riddle and Wolf combine for 31 kills, Barbara lifts 21 digs

Mahwah, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team won its second straight contest with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-19 road victory at Ramapo Friday evening. Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) combined for 31 kills with Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) lifting 21 digs.
 
Friday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 8-5 overall on the season and the Knights stopped a seven match losing skid to the Roadrunners.
 
First Set
  • The Knights hit .290 in the opening frame and put away 14 kills.
  • The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead and after Ramapo knotted the score 5-5, used a 4-1 stretch to move back in front 9-6.
  • The Roadrunners took an 11-10 advantage on a miscue before putting together a 10-2 spurt to surge in front 20-13. Three kills from Riddle and a pair of aces from Barbara keyed the run.
  • Ramapo would get back to within 20-15 with two straight points before the Knights score the final five tallies to open a 1-0 lead. Riddle posted a kill and a Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) ace supported the run.
  • Riddle finished the opening set with eight of the team's 14 kills.
 
Second Set
  • The Knights picked up 14 more winners in the second stanza, doubling up the output from the Roadrunners in the set.
  • A 5-0 run from the Knights erased a 4-2 deficit with Haley Houghton (Bellerose, N.Y.) providing a kill over the run.
  • Mount Saint Mary would not trail again after the early deficit and put together a 5-1 spurt, keyed by a pair of Wolf winners, to move in front 14-7.
  • Mount Saint Mary took advantage of a Ramapo attack error to grab a 19-14 lead and scored four straight points, aided by a kill and ace from Riddle, to grab a 23-17 edge.
  • After Ramapo got back to within 23-20, a Roadrunner miscue and a kill from Wolf pushed the Mount to within a set of the victory.
Third Set
  • Mount Saint Mary closed out the match with 13 kills in the third set with Ramapo hitting -.077 in the final frame.
  • Mount Saint Mary raced out to a 7-2 lead in the early going and used a 5-1 run in the middle of the set to take a 14-8 lead.
  • The Knights broke open the set with a 6-0 run, sparked by two Wolf kills, to open a 20-9 advantage.
  • The Roadrunners used a 6-1 stretch to pull to within 24-19, but Riddle closed out the match with her 20th kill of the evening.
 
For The Knights
  • Riddle reached double-figures in kills for the ninth straight match with her 20 and reached the 20-kill plateau for the fifth time this season and second time in third outings. She closed out the win with eight digs and a pair of aces for the Knights.
  • Wolf totaled 11 kills for the Mount, reaching double-figures for the fourth time this season, adding four digs and a pair of kills.
  • Houghton and Stephanie Mele (Newburgh, N.Y.) each finished with four winners with Houghton adding three blocks.
  • Barbara led all players in the match with her 21 digs, reaching 20 digs in a match for the second time this season. She added two aces to the winning effort.
  • Cammarata handed out 30 assists for the Knights, adding two kills, two aces and nine digs.
 
For The Roadrunners
  • Ramapo was led by seven kills from Ashley Pichardo.
  • Amanda Fatouh led Ramapo with 14 digs.
  • Hannah McTighe handed out 11 assists and Riley Stewart posted three total blocks.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary finished with a commanding 41-19 advantage in kills, hitting .224 as a team against -.021 for the Roadrunners.
  • The Knights held a slim 9-8 edge in service aces.
  • Total team blocks on the day went to the Knights by a 5-4 margin.
 
What's Next
  • The Knights will close out the weekend with a non-conference match against FDU-Florham at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
  • The Roadrunners will finish the invitational with a match against Brooklyn College.
