Doyle’s Hat Trick Leads Mount Saint Mary To Road Win At Old Westbury

Doyle scores three, Wyant totals five points

Farmingdale, N.Y. – Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored his first three goals of the year with Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) and Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.) added makers as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team opened Skyline Conference play with a convincing 5-0 win at Old Westbury. The win marks the 100th career victory for head coach Kevin Longacre in his 10th season at the Mount. 
 
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-4 overall on the season and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference play, while the Panthers drop to 2-3 and 0-1 in league play. The win also pushes Mount Saint Mary to 9-5-2 against the Panthers in the last 16 meetings.
 
First Half
  • The Knights struck with three goals in the opening 45 minutes, including two just 43 seconds apart.
  • Ramirez scored the eventual game winning goal, his first marker of the season, at the 19:56 mark of the contest. He finished off a feed from Wyant who picked up his first assist of the season on the play.
  • Doyle scored his first of three straight goals just 43 seconds later, finishing off Wyant's second assist of the game at 20:39.
  • The Knights opened a three goal advantage when Doyle scored his second goal of the game in the 44th minute. He headed in Wyant's third assist of the half at 43:47.
  • Mount Saint Mary outshot Old Westbury by a slim 6-5 margin in the opening 45 minutes.
  • First half corner kicks went to the Knights 3-1.
  • Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) rounded out the first half with a pair of saves.
 
Second Half
  • The Mount extended it lead late in the second half when Doyle finished off his hat trick in the 77th minute. He completed a pass from Nick Biagini (Mahopac, N.Y.) at the 76:08 mark of the contest.
  • Wyant finished off the scoring for the Knights in the 81st minute when he connected on his second goal of the season, finishing off Biagini's second assist of the game, at 80:57.
  • Mount Saint Mary was outshot 8-7 in the second half.
  • The Knights took three of the four corner kicks after halftime.
  • Decker posted two more saves for the Knights in the second half.
 
For The Knights
  • Doyle's hat trick moves him into the team lead in goals with three as he potted three goals on four shots in the game.
  • Wyant took the team lead in assists with three and the team lead in points with seven with his offensive output against the Panthers.
  • Ramirez scored his first goal of the season.
  • Biagini picked up the first two points of his career with his two helpers.
  • Decker rounded out the win in goal with four saves for the Knights.
  • Longacre moves to 100-69-15. 
 
For The Panthers
  • Matt Thayer led eight different players with a shot for Old Westbury with three.
  • James Perciballi closed the day with three saves in goal.

  • Shots in the game were even at 12-12 with the Knights posting an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
