Women’s Volleyball Continues Skyline Conference Play At USMMA, Purchase

Knights coming off tri-match sweep at CMSV Saturday

Newburgh, N.Y. – After opening the Skyline Conference schedule with a come-from-behind five set road win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team continues league play with trips to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Purchase this week. Match times for on both Tuesday and Wednesday are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live States and Video available.

At A Glance: Winners of its last two matches, Mount Saint Mary stands at 6-4 overall on the season and 1-0 in Skyline Conference play.
 
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) is off to a strong start with a team-high 144 kills averaging better than four kills per set. Over four matches last week, Riddle put away 71 kills and produced a double-double in each of the team's four contests. She enters the new week averaging 3.45 digs per set to go along with 11 total blocks and 20 service aces.
 
Freshman Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) begins the week as the team leader with 36 aces, averaging 1.0 ace per set. She supports the offense with 76 kills, posting better than two winners per frame, and has lifted 104 digs.
 
Haley Houghton (Bellerose, N.Y.) is tied with Riddle for the team lead in total blocks with 11 with Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) leading the way with 134 digs, good for just over four per set.
 
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) has handed out 261 assists to date, averaging 7.25 helpers per set, and is chipping in 17 kills, five aces and 94 digs.
 
Skyline Conference Honors: After averaging better than five kills and nearly four digs per set over four matches last week, Riddle was tabbed the Skyline Conference Player of the Week on Monday. The honor is the third for Riddle in her career.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights stopped a two-match skid on Saturday with a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent and a 3-0 non-conference sweep of Baruch.
 
Trailing 2-0 to the Dolphins, the Mount ripped off three straight set wins to get the day off to a good start. Riddle put away a season-high 25 kills, hitting a blistering .392, to go along with 17 digs in the victory.
 
Wolf totaled nine winners and seven assists to go along with 11 digs with Barbara checking in with 16 digs. Cammarata rounded out the win with 33 assists and eight digs for the Knights.
 
Against the Bearcats, Riddle put away 19 more winners, hitting .340 in the process, and wrapped up her second double-double of the day with 10 digs. Wolf lifted 10 digs and contributed six kills and a pair of service aces.
 
Barbara and Cammarata posted the team-high with 14 digs apiece against Baruch with Cammarata adding 26 assists and two aces.
 
A Look At USMMA: The Mariners enter the week at 6-1 overall, including a 3-0 win over Purchase in their last outing on Thursday. Sierra Steffen led the offense with 11 kills while Brittany Pinzon handed out 24 assists and lifted 10 digs. Taylor Gilbertson led the team with four aces in just one set of work.
 
Through seven matches, Paige Smith and Gilberton lead the team with 68 and 67 kills, respectively. Gilbertson holds the team lead in aces with 16 and has added 70 digs. Smith paces the Mariners with 12 total blocks and checks in with 51 digs.
 
Skyler Burnham is the team leader in digs with 84, good for 4.42 per frame, while Pinzon has handed out 212 assists, good for nearly nine per set, to go along with eight aces.
 
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers enter Wednesday's match at just 0-2 overall and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. Purchase fell in straight sets to Brooklyn in its season opener on September 9 and was swept by USMMA in its last outing on Thursday.
 
Gia Gwin is the team leader in kills through six sets with 10 winners and has added a trio of service aces. Pamella Gonzalez holds the team lead in digs with 21 while Karina Medina has handed out 22 assists. Samantha Fasce sits atop the team leaderboard with four service aces.
 
Recent History: The Knights are in search of their first win against the Mariners since 2011, while they look to extend a 13-match winning streak against the Panthers.
 
What's Next: The Knights will head to Ramapo for two matches in the Roadrunners Invitational. The Knights and Ramapo will square-off on Friday before the Mount and FDU-Florham will meet Saturday afternoon.
