Newburgh, N.Y. – Playing its first home game since November 6, 2019, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team suffered a 4-0 non-conference loss to visiting RPI Wednesday night.
Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and
Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each finished with one save in goal.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-2-1 overall on the season, while the win improves the Engineers record to 2-1-2.
First Half
- The Engineers got the scoring started early with the eventual game winning goal coming just 94 seconds into the contest.
- Erin Barnes scored her first of two first half tallies at the 1:34 mark of the match when she finished off a long pass from Whitney Winsom.
- Barnes struck again with her second of the game in the 29th minute when she recovered a turnover and finished it off at the 28:18 mark of the contest.
- RPI outshot the Mount 5-1 in the opening stanza
- Mount Saint Mary took the only corner kick in the period.
- Brucato, playing the first 26:15 of the contest , finished with one save.
Second Half
- RPI expanded its lead to 3-0 early in the second frame when Ali Bisaccia headed in a corner kick off the foot of Emma Skantze at 52:49.
- The Engineers closed out the scoring in the 85th minute when Olivia Spector took a pass from Rhea Banerjee inside the box and potted her first goal of the season at the 84:52 mark of the contest.
- The Engineers finished the second half with a 6-1 advantage in shots and took the only two corner kicks of the second 45 minutes.
- Kakavas made one save in the second stanza for the Knights.
For Mount Saint Mary
- Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) and Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) recorded the only shots in the game for the Knights.
- Brucato and Kakavas each stopped one shot with Brucato falling to 1-2 on the season.
For RPI
- Fiver different players finished with two shots in the game.
- Barnes tallied twice and the Engineers had three different players record an assist
- Sierra Skelding earned the win in goal without having to make a save.
- Maya Kessler finished with one save in the second half.
