Men’s Soccer Suffers Road Loss At SUNY Poly

Maggi leads team with three shots

Utica, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team was handed it second straight loss on Wednesday night following a 2-0 defeat on the road at SUNY Poly. Five different Knights finished with at least two shots in the game, led by thee attempts from Christopher Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.)
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 1-4 overall on the season with the win pushing the Wildcats record to 3-1.
 
First Half
  • The two teams went into the intermission in a scoreless tie.
  • SUNY Poly rounded out the opening 45 minutes with an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) was forced to make three saves to keep the Wildcats off the board in the first period.
  • Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) finished the first half with a pair of shots for the Knights.
 
Second Half
  • SUNY Poly did all of its scoring in just over two minutes early in the second stanza.
  • Noah Fagnani finished off a feed from Aboubacar Camara at the 53:10 mark of the match for the eventual deciding goal.
  • Edgar Gomez added an insurance goal, his fourth of the season, at 55:38 with Camara recording his second assist of the night.
  • Mount Saint Mary outshot SUNY Poly 6-3 after halftime, but could not find a goal.
  • Decker made a single save after halftime for the Mount.
 
For The Knights
  • Maggi finished the night with three shots to lead the team.
  • Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.), Wyant, Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.) all finished with two shots.
  • Doyle recorded the team's only shot on goal.
  • Decker finished with four saves on the night.
 
For The Wildcats
  • Gomez potted his team leading fourth goal of the season.
  • Fagnani scored his first game winning goal of the year.
  • Camara moved into a tie for the team lead with three assists on the season.
  • Abus Mohamed-Ali led the team with four shots.
  • James D'Alessio earned the win in goal with one save.
 
Match Statistics
  • Shots in the game were even at 11-11 with SUNY Poly holding a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Wildcats took each of the four corner kicks in the game.
