Women’s Volleyball Continues Season Opening Road Trip With Visits to SUNY-Delhi, William Paterson

Knights coming off 2-1 weekend at New Paltz

Newburgh, N.Y. – After winning two of its three matches at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational over the weekend, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team continues its 15-match road trip to open the season with midweek matches at SUNY Delhi and William Paterson. The Knights take on the Broncos on Tuesday night before heading to William Paterson for a Thursday's night non-conference match.
 
At A Glance: After posting a 2-1 weekend at New Paltz, topping Sage and Alfred, the Knights stand at 4-2 overall on the young season heading into Tuesday's match with Delhi. The Mount outlasted Sage in five sets before topping Alfred in four frames over the weekend with Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) wrapping up the two wins with a combined 45 kills for the Knights.
 
Riddle leads the Mount's offense with 73 kills, averaging nearly 3.5 winners per set through six matches. Riddle also enters the week with 15 service aces, 69 digs and three total blocks.
 
Freshman Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) is off to a strong start, leading the team with 27 service aces and adding 68 digs. Offensively, Wolf ranks second on the team in kills with 45, averaging just over two kills per set.
 
Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) has put away 33 kills to date, good for third on the team, and is contributing 3.64 digs per set to go along with four total blocks and six aces. Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.) leads the Knights with five blocks, while Alyssa Barbara (East Islip, N.Y.) sits atop the team leaderboard with 86 digs, good for 4.10 per frame.
 
Junior Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handles the setting duties for the Knights, entering the week with 158 helpers, good for better than seven per set.
 
Mount Saint Mary holds a .099 team attack percentage and is putting away 9.5 kills per set. The Knights have controlled the service games through six matches, holding a 63-39 advantage in aces on the season.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights scored a 25-19, 20-25, 27-25, 20-25, 15-7 against Sage and an 18-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-23 victory over Alfred to close out play in the Hawks Invitational.
 
Riddle had a big match against the Gators, putting away a season-high 24 kills and lifting a career-high 24 digs. Wolf put away 13 kills and lifted 19 digs to go along with four aces and Cammarata finished off a double-double with a career-high 49 assists and 13 digs.
 
Against Alfred, Riddle put away another 21 kills, hitting nearly .300 in the match, with Wolf posting a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Hydo led the team with 19 digs with Cammarata adding 34 assists in the win.
 
A Look At The Broncos: The Broncos enter Tuesday's tilt with a 3-2 record and on a three match winning streak. Most recently, SUNY Delhi scored a straight set victory over St. Elizabeth that saw Bailee Jones put away 11 kills and Stephanie Burke add 10 winners and 11 digs. Rebecca Heuler led all players with 29 digs and Grace Thomas handed out 34 assists.
 
Jones leads the Broncos with 47 kills through five matches, good for 2.24 per set, and adds 66 digs and five service aces. Thomas enters Tuesday's match with 118 assists, just shy of six per set, is the team leader with 10 aces and is second on the team with 35 kills.
 
Kaylin Hamilton is the team leader with 68 digs with Witchney Clersainville leading the way with eight total blocks to go along with 31 kills.
 
Previewing the Pioneers: William Paterson hosts Rowan in its NJAC opener on Tuesday with an even 3-3 record through six matches. The Pioneers have alternated losses and wins to start the season and are coming off a 3-1 triumph over Baruch on Saturday. Dakota Apicella paced the offense with 21 kills in the win and added a team-high 23 digs.
 
Apicella is one of three Pioneers with at least 30 kills in the early going, putting away 98 and averaging 4.26 per set. She also leads the team in digs with 109, lifting 4.74 per frame.
 
Apicella and Kathleen Burrough shade the team lead with eight service aces, with Kristin Volavka handing out a team-high 177 assists, good for 7.70 per set.
 
Recent History: Since the start of the 2016 season, Mount Saint Mary and SUNY Delhi have met four times with the Knights holding a 4-0 record. The Mount swept the Broncos 3-0 in both 2016 and 2017, outlasted Delhi on the road in five sets in 2018 and scored a 3-1 win at home in 2019.
 
Mount Saint Mary and William Paterson have met 12 times since the start of the 2007 season, with the Pioneers winning seven times. The Mount has won three of the last four meetings, including a 3-1 win in Newburgh in 2019.
 
What's Next: Following two non-conference matches in the midweek, Mount Saint Mary will begin Skyline Conference play when it travels to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Knights and Dolphins will square off as part of a tri-match with Baruch.
