Delhi, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returned to action on Tuesday night and suffered a 12-25, 20-25, 18-25 non-conference road loss at SUNY Delhi. Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished with a double-double and freshman KayLani Baynes (New Windsor, N.Y.) lifted a career-high 18 digs.
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-3 overall on the season, while SUNY Delhi improves to 4-2.
First Set
- The two sides split the first eight points of the night, with the Mount scoring three straight points to knot the score at 4-4.
- After evening the score, the Mount saw the Broncos score the next seven points to move in front 11-4.
- The Knights would score back-to-back points just once more in the frame, taking advantage of a Bronco error and a kill from Riddle to move the score to 21-10.
- The Mount put away seven kills in the opening frame with SUNY Delhi recording 11 winners and hitting an efficient .333.
Second Set
- Mount Saint Mary jumped out to leads of 4-2 and 6-3 in the middle stanza keyed by two kills from Riddle.
- SUNY Delhi used a 5-0 run to open an 8-6 advantage and a 4-0 spurt to move in front 12-8.
- Another 4-0 run for the Broncos, aided by three Mount miscues, saw the lead balloon to 19-12.
- Mount Saint Mary closed the gap to 19-15 following three straight points, but a 5-2 stretch from Delhi pushed the lead to 24-17.
- Mount Saint Mary ripped off the next three points, including a Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) kill, to cut the deficit to 24-20, but a Lexi Taylor winner pushed the Broncos in front 2-0.
- Mount Saint Mary recorded eight kills in the second set, but Delhi put down 12 winners to gain the two set edge.
Third Set
- Delhi jumped in front 9-4 in the final set, before the Knights scored three straight points, including an ace from Haley Houghton (Bellerose, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 9-7.
- The Knights stayed within four points until a 6-1 run spread the Bronco lead out to 19-11.
- The Mount climbed back to within 19-16 with five straight points, including a Wolf kill.
- Delhi answered with six of the final eight points to claim their fourth win of the season.
- Mount Saint Mary collected eight more kills in the third frame, with Delhi putting away 10 winners.
For The Knights
- Riddle led the team with 11 kills and closed a double-double with 14 digs.
- Wolf continued her strong start to the season with 10 kills and eight digs.
- Baynes wrapped up the night with her career-high 18 digs, adding a service acea\s.
- Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 19 assists to go along with four digs.
- Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) joined Riddle with a team-high three total blocks.
For The Broncos
- Bailee Jones paced the team with 10 kills and finished off a double-double with 10 digs.
- Rebecca Hueler lifted a team-high 14 digs and led all players with four aces.
- Grace Thomas handed out a match-high 23 assists and added a pair of aces.
