Mount Saint Mary Powers Past St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Bojka pours in season-high 33 points

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) led four players in double-figures and tallied a season-high 33 points on Saturday as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball teamed cruised to a 96-72 Skyline Conference road win at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
 
Saturday's win gives the Mount three straight victories and moves in to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The win is the 11th over the Bears in the last 13 meetings in the series since the start of the 2013-14 season.
 
First Quarter
  • The Knights broke the game open early, outscoring the Bears 29-8 in the first period.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 52.2-percent from the floor in the opening 10 minutes and connected on three triples.
  • The Knights opened the game on a 16-0 run highlighted by nine points from Bojka.
  • The Mount did not allow a field goal until the midway mark of the quarter.
  • Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) pushed the Mount in front by 21 points with a conversion in the final 40 seconds of the period.
 
Second Quarter
  • The Mount converted at better than 43-percent from the floor in the second stanza and knocked in two more three-pointers.
  • Bojka pushed the lead to 31-8 with a jumper inside the first minute of the second period.
  • St. Joseph's would not be able to pull closer than 21 points leading into halftime.
  •  Mount Saint Mary grabbed a half-high 31-point lead, at 50-19, on a Bojka conversion with 1:11 left before halftime.
  • The Knights closed the period with a pair of Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) free-throws to carry a commanding 54-24 lead into the halftime intermission.
 
Third Quarter
  • The Knights cooled to 38.1-percent shooting in the third period, but connected on three of their seven three-point field goal attempts.
  • The Knights lead would not get smaller than 23 points throughout the third stanza.
  • The Mount Saint Mary advantage ballooned to a game-high 37 points on a Rivera bucket in transition that pushed the Knights in front 80-43 with 11 seconds left in the period.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • Mount Saint Mary maintained a lead of at least 24 points throughout the final period.
  • The Knights reached 90 points on a Brooke Leahy (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) triple midway through the quarter that gave the Knights a 90-59 advantage.
  • Mount Saint Mary converted at 30-percent in the final stanza and knocked in its final two three-point field goals.
 
For The Knights
  • Mount Saint Mary reached as many as 96 points for the first time since scoring 101 against Yeshiva on November 21, 2019.
  • 11 different players found the scoring column for the Knights in the win.
  • Bojka scored at least 30 points for the third time in her career and missed matching her career-high of 35 by two points.
  • Bojka finished the game shooting 12-for-17 from the floor, 2-for-3 from three-point range and 7-for-10 from the free-throw line. She added seven rebounds, two assists and seven steals to the winning effort.
  • Tabasco and Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) each scored a season-high 11 points in the win. Tabasco collected eight rebounds and swiped four steals with Desrats adding two assists.
  • Rivera scored a season-high 10 points off the bench for the Knights and finished the game with three assists and five steals.
  • Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) dished out seven assists, matching the game-high in the category.
  • Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) provided six points and five rebounds.
 
For The Bears
  • St. Joseph's was led by 21 points from Emma Kiley who added six rebounds and four blocks.
  • Kelly O'Donnell produced 13 points and handed out five assists.
  • Alexis Breen and Jamie Provino each scored 11 points with Breen joining Smith with a game-high seven assists.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 41.3-percent overall in the game and went 10-for-27 from three-point range.
  • St. Joseph's finished up at 38.8-percent and 8-for-18 from bonus distance.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored St. Joseph's 20-12 from the free-throw line.
  • Mount Saint Mary collected 20 offensive rebounds and turned those into 22 second chance points.
  • The Knights outscored the Bears by eight in the paint.
  • Fast break points went to the Mount by a convincing 34-5 margin.
