Knights Tripped Up By Rams

Kennedy scores first career goal

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday following a 4-1 loss to visiting Farmingdale State. Chloe Kennedy (Middletown, N.Y.) converted a second half penalty kick for her first career tally.
 
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-4-2 overall on the season and to 5-1-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Farmingdale State improves to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in league competition.
 
First Half
  • Mount Saint Mary was held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes, getting outshot by the visitors 10-0.
  • Corner kicks in the first half also went to the Rams by a 5-1 count.
  • The only scoring in the first period came when Julissa Martinez converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute. The marker was the eighth of the season for Martinez and sent the Rams into the break with a one goal advantage.
  • Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) closed the first half with five saves in goal for the Mount.
 
Second Half
  • Farmingdale State spread its lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals in the first 16 minutes of the second period.
  • Jazzmin Terrell scored her eighth of the season a minute into the second half, finishing off a feed from Celina Schenk for her eighth goal of the year.
  • Tara Lyons potted her first of the season when she headed in a free kick started by Taylor Berry at 55:20 to push the visitor's lead to 3-0.
  • Mount Saint Mary finally broke through in the 66th minute on its first shot of the contest. After being awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the box, Kennedy stepped to the spot and buried her first career goal at 65:07 to being the Knights to within 3-1.
  • Farmingdale State answered just under 10 minutes later and gained the final three-goal advantage when Terrell floated a ball over the keeper and into the back of the net for her second of the game at 74:43.
  • Farmingdale State finished the second half with a 12-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Rams took all three corner kick awarded after halftime.
 
For The Knights
  • Kennedy became the fifth Knight to score her first career goal in 2021 with her penalty kick tally.
  • Ashlee Peters (Fishkill, N.Y.) recorded the Mount's only other shot in the game.
  • Kakavas finished with eight stops in just under 82 minutes of action.
 
For The Rams
  • Terrell moved into the team lead in goals with her eighth and ninth markers of the season on a team-high eight shots.  
  • Martinez scored for the eighth time and totaled three shots in the game.
  • Molly Dowd, Berry and Schenk each picked up an assist for the Rams.
  • Chloe Kensell picked up the win in goal with a single save.
 
Match Statistics
  • Farmingdale State finished the afternoon with a 22-2 advantage in shots, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Rams also controlled corner kicks in the game, 8-1.
 
What's Next
  • The Mount will be off until October 16 when they play host to St. Joseph's-L.I. in the fourth game of a six-game home stand.
  • Farmingdale State travels to Western Connecticut for a non-conference matchup on Monday.
