Knights Cruise To Fourth Straight Victory

Bornstad posts seven points

Newburgh, N.Y. – Led by three goals and an assist from Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) and a pair of markers from KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team eased to its fourth straight victory with an 8-0 Skyline Conference win over Old Westbury on Thursday. In total, the Knights had five different goal scorers and seven different players with at least one point.
 
With the victory, Mount Saint Mary improves to 6-3-2 overall on the season and 5-0-1 in conference play and has still yet to allow a goal to a conference opponent. The win gives the Mount 14 straight victories over the Panthers and 15 in the last 17 meetings.
 
First Half
  • Old Westbury starting keeper Mallory Moretti made four saves, all from close range, in the opening 6:20 of the game before the Knights broke through in the 13th minute.
  • Platt potted the eventual game winning goal at the 12:57 mark of the half when she finished off a feed from Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Following the Platt goal, the Knights would not score again until the 31st minute, but would score three times in just over three minutes.
  • Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) gave the Mount a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute when she scored for the second time this season at 30:33.
  • The Mount quickly moved in front 3-0 when Bornstad finished off an assist from Lindsay less than a minute later for her first of the game.
  • Bornstad collected her second marker of the night at the 33:40 mark after Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) feed a pass along the end line into box that found her right foot.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the opening period with a 28-1 advantage in shots.
  • The Knights took an 8-0 edge in corner kicks into the intermission.
 
Second Half
  • Mount Saint Mary deposited four more goals in the second half to reach a season-high in scoring with eight tallies.
  • Wendy Guerra (Newburgh, N.Y.) started the second half scoring at the 72:36 mark of the contest when she converted a penalty kick for her first career tally.
  • Bornstad closed out her hat trick in the 79th minute when she curled a shot from jut outside the box under the bar to give the Mount a 6-0 lead.
  • Platt registered her second goal of the game in the 81st minute when she finished off a pass from Bornstad.
  • Carter closed out the scoring in the game with just under four minutes left when she drove home a pass from Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.).
  • The Knights outshot Old Westbury 18-1 after halftime.
  • Corner kicks in the second frame went to the Mount 4-0.
 
For The Knights
  • With three goals and an assist, Bornstad moved into the team lead in goals with five, pushed her team lead in assists to five and stands with a team-high 15 points.
  • Platt posted her second multiple goal game of the season.
  • Lindsay and Carter each finished the night with a goal and an assist for the Mount.
  • Lindsay, Quinones and Zecca each picked up their first assists of the season.
  • Guerra became the fourth Knight to score her first career goal in 2021.
  • 18 different Knights finished with at least one shot, including Bornstad who led the team with eight.
  • Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made the start in goal and finished with a single save in 34 minutes of work.
  • Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) came on to play the final 56 minutes and was not forced to make a stop.
 
For The Panthers
  • Nicole Abalco recorded and Moretti each recorded one shot apiece.
  • Moretti made 12 first half saves in goal.
  • Jennifer Pasquariello made nine saves in net after the break for the Panthers.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the night with a 46-2 advantage in shots, including a 29-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Mount Saint Mary took each of the 12 corner kicks awarded in the contest.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary plays host to four-time defending conference champion Farmingdale State on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
