Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team suffered its third straight loss on Monday night following a 25-23, 13-25, 22-25, 16-25 conference loss to visiting Manhattanville.
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) was one of four players in double-figures in digs and added a match-high 18 kills.
Monday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 8-8 and to a match under .500 in league play at 2-3. The Valiants improve to 8-4 on the season and to 2-1 in Skyline Conference competition.
First Set
- The Knights got off to a good start on Monday, putting away 11 kills and hitting .202 in the opening stanza.
- The first set featured 13 ties and five lead changes.
- Manhattanville surged in front 16-12 with a 6-0 run in the middle of the set. Caylee Primoli posted two service aces over the run with Militza Gonzalez putting away a pair of kills.
- Mount Saint Mary used a 6-1 run, keyed by a kill and ace from Riddle, to jump back in front 20-18.
- The visitors scored three straight to regain a slim 21-20 edge with Vianca Vital posting two service aces.
- Mount Saint Mary rallied once more to score five of the final seven points in the set to take a 1-0 lead. Riddle helped the run with two kills, including the final point of the frame.
Second Set
- The two teams continued the tightly contested match in the second frame with the Mount tying things at 8-8 following a Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) kill and a Manhattanville miscue.
- From there, the Valiants ripped off 10 of the next 11 points, including an 8-0 run to break open an 18-9 advantage.
- A Riddle kills stopped the run, but Manhattanville wouldn't let the Mount closer than eight points the rest of the way.
- Manhattanville put away 16 kills in the second stanza and hit an efficient .333.
Third Set
- Mount Saint Mary opened a 10-5 advantage following a four-point run aided by kills from Riddle and Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.).
- The Knights maintained the lead, but following a Valiant attack error that gave the Mount a 14-9 lead, the visitors scored six straight points to grab a 15-14 advantage. Sofia Morales put away a pair of kills over the run for the Valiants.
- Mount Saint Mary responded with the next three points to move back in front 17-15 following three straight errors from Manhattanville.
- The two sides stayed within two points until a 4-0 spurt, all kills by Morales, pushed the Valiants in front 24-21.
- The Mount climbed back to within 24-22, but an Alejandra Figueroa winner pushed the visitors in front 2-1.
- Mount Saint Mary posted nine kills in the third set, while Manhattanville finished the third with 17 winners.
Fourth Set
- The Knights and Valiants battled closely again in the fourth set with the two sides trading 3-0 runs in the early going, with the visitors taking advantage of three Mount errors to grab an early 9-8 lead.
- A 4-0 run from Manhattanville opened a 14-10 lead, before the Knights scored four of the next five points, including two kills from Riddle, to get back to within 15-14.
- Following a Manhattanville service error that brought the Mount to within 18-16, the Valiants scored the final seven points of the frame to close out the victory.
- Mount Saint Mary posted 10 winners in the final set, with Manhattanville adding 12 more winners while hitting .310.
For The Knights
- Riddle reach double-figures in kills for the 12th straight match with the match-high of 18 on Monday. She finished off a double-double with 17 digs, adding an ace and two blocks for the Knights.
- Hydo closed a solid night with eight winners, hitting .261, to go along with 17 digs and a service ace.
- Wolf rounded out the night with seven kills and 17 digs. Wolf added an ace and a pair of blocks for the Mount.
- Stephanie Mele (Newburgh, N.Y.) recorded three kills and added three blocks.
- Haley Houghton (Bellerose, N.Y.) led the way with four blocks for the Knights.
- Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 34 assists and lifted 15 digs while adding a block.
- Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) led the Mount with 21 digs, adding one of the team's four aces.
For The Valiants
- Figeuroa led three players in double-figures in kills with 15, adding nine digs and two aces.
- Morales put away 14 winners, hitting .333 on the night, to go along with two blocks.
- Gonzalez rounded out the trio in double-figures with 10 winners, closing a double-double with 15 digs.
- Vital led all players with 45 assists and finished a big night with 21 digs and two aces.
- Grace Ballagas led all players with 24 digs in the match and recorded an ace.
Match Statistics
- Manhattanville finished the night with a 57-37 advantage in kills, hitting .194 as a team against .114 for the Mount.
- The Valiants held the advantage in the service game with a 9-4 edge in aces.
- Mount Saint Mary closed the night with a 7-4 edge in total team blocks.

- The Knights travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. for a 12:00 p.m. contest with the Golden Eagles on Saturday.
- Manhattanville hosts Farmingdale State on Thursday night.
