Glassboro, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team finished off the regular season schedule on Saturday with non-conference losses to Brooklyn College and Rowan. The Knights were topped in four sets by the Bulldogs 25-20, 16-25, 19-25, 25-15 and closed the day with a 20-25, 18-25, 10-25 loss at the hands of the host Profs.
Saturday's results drop Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 14-14 heading into Tuesday's match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the First Round of the 2021 Skyline Conference Championship.
Brooklyn 3 – Mount Saint Mary 1
How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary opened a 1-0 lead on the Bulldogs after putting away 13 kills and hitting .225 in the opening set.
- The Knights held off a late charge from Brooklyn in the opening set with a kill from Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) to close out the frame.
- After recording 13 kills in the first set, the Mount was limited to 14 winners over the next two frames.
- After a Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) kill brought the Mount to within 20-17, the Bulldogs ripped off the final five points to even the match at 1-1.
- The third set saw the Bulldogs use a six-point run to open a 14-7 lead and an 8-3 stretch to build a 22-14 lead.
- The Knight battled back to 23-19, but a pair of Mount Saint Mary miscues saw Brooklyn jump in front 2-1.
- Brooklyn put away 16 kills in the final frame and hit .438 as a team.
- A 6-1 run saw the Bulldogs move in front 21-12 and a 4-2 closing spurt keyed by kills from Ashley Fung and Sydney Gdanski gave Brooklyn the 3-1 victory.
For The Knights
- Jackie Wolf and Riddle led the Mount with nine kills apiece with Riddle adding two aces and a team-high 15 digs.
- Riddle saw her 22-match string of at least 10 kills come to a close.
- Hydo finished the match with four kills, four aces, 10 digs and a team-high 25 assists.
- Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.) closed the contest with four kills and joined Wolf with a team-high two blocks.
- Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) lifted 14 digs for the Mount and added three assists.
For The Bulldogs
- Fung and Aleah Rafat led all players with 15 kills apiece with Rafat posting a match-high 18 digs.
- Erzi Shor handed out a match-high 36 assists.
- Noa Young led the team with four service aces.
Match Statistics
- Brooklyn finished the match with a 47-34 advantage in kills and hit .195 as a team.
- Mount Saint Mary held the edge in service aces 8-5.
- Total team blocks in the match were even at 3-3.
Rowan 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
How It Happened
- Rowan recorded at least 12 kills in each of the three sets and hit .320 as a team in the third frame.
- After the Mount closed to within 19-17 in the first, The Profs scored six of the final nine points to open a 1-0 lead.
- Rowan used a 7-0 run to open a 15-10 in the middle frame.
- The Profs opened a 22-17 lead with a 6-2 stretch capped by a Natalie Ogden winner.
- Rowan closed out the second stanza with a 3-1 run, scoring all three points on Mount Saint Mary miscues.
- Rowan hit .320 as a unit in the final set and scored eight straight points to open an 8-1 lead.
- The Profs finished the set with the final seven points, keyed by two aces from Ogden to close out the victory.
For The Knights
- Wolf and Riddle led the offensive attack with seven kills apiece. Riddle added a pair of aces with Wolf posting an ace and nine digs.
- Hydo handed out 16 assists and finished off a double-double with 10 digs.
- Barbara led the team with 16 digs.
For The Profs
- Ogden led all players in the match with 11 kills, hitting .455 in the contest.
- Brooke Adams handed out 29 assists and equaled the team-high with three aces.
- Simone Sparano lifted a team-high 24 digs.
- Geena Edmanson totaled four blocks and put away five kills.
Match Statistics
- Rowan held a 38-23 advantage in kills and hit .257 as a team in the match.
- Service aces went to the Profs by an 11-7 margin.
- Rowan controlled the net with a 5-0 advantage in total team blocks.
What's Next
- The Knights host the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship.
- Rowan will be back in action in the semifinal round of the NJAC Tournament on November 4.
