Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team closed out a six-game home stand on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought 1-0 overtime loss to #11 Hamilton. Prior to the match, the Knights recognized the 11 members of the 2021 Senior Class.
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-6-2 overall on the season, while Hamilton improves its overall record to 11-1-2. The meeting was the first all-time between the two programs.
First Half
- A scoreless first half saw Hamilton hold a 5-1 advantage in shots.
- First half corner kicks went to the Continentals 3-0.
- The Mount's only shot of the opening stanza came off the foot of Chloe Kennedy (Middletown, N.Y.) at the 31:59 mark of the contest.
- Hamilton's best chance of the opening half came when Leah Basel rang a shot off the crossbar with 57 seconds left before halftime.
- Kakavas finished the first half with two saves.
- Hamilton keeper Caity Smith closed the opening 45 minutes with a single stop.
Second Half
- Neither team would find the back of the net in the second half, with Hamilton taking six of the seven shots in the period.
- Mount Saint Mary had a chance to pot the go-ahead goal late in regulation time, when Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.) put a ball on target, but Hamilton keeper Clare Robinson pounced on the loose ball to keep the game scoreless with less than two minutes left in regulation time.
- Kakavas made two more saves after halftime, including one with less than four minutes left in regulation to keep the Continentals off the board.
- Robinson made a single save in 23 minutes of relief work for Hamilton.
Overtime Period
- Hamilton scored on the only shot in the extra period, converting just over four minutes into the frame.
- Rylie Mutton took the ball to the end line and centered a pass that found Caroline Dawson who deposited her second goal of the season at 94:29.
For The Knights
- Kennedy and Zecca each finished with one shot for the Knights.
- Kakavas allowed only one tally and made four saves in goal.

For The Continentals
- Dawson scored her second goal of the season and picked up her first game winning goal.
- Mutton moved into a tie for the team lead in assists with three and picked up her team best 15th point of the year.
- Smith earned the win in goal after returning in the overtime period, making one save.

- Hamilton finished the day with a 12-2 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
- Corner kicks went to the Continentals 6-1.
