DeSantis, Quinones score twice

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) and Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored twice and Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) combined on the shutout in goal as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team scored a 6-0 road victory at Maritime Saturday night.
 
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary back above the .500 mark at 4-3-2 overall and moves it to 3-0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The win over Maritime, who falls to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in league play, is the 14th straight over the Privateers since the start of the 2007 campaign.
 
First Half
  • The Knights got all the scoring it needed early on Saturday when Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) potted her first of the season in the third minute. She finished off a pass from Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) at the 2:41 mark of the match for the only scoring they would need.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the opening 45 minutes with a 5-1 advantage in shots.
  • The Knights took each of the three corner kicks in the first half.
  • Neither goalkeeper was credited with a save in the opening period.
 
Second Half
  • The Mount Saint Mary offense erupted after halftime, scoring five times on nine shots.
  • DeSantis scored her first two goals of the season inside the first 10 minutes of the half to push the Mount in front 3-0. Her first goal came off a feed from Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) at the 47:46 mark of the contest with her second coming off a pass from Chloe Kennedy (Middletown, N.Y.) at 54:55.
  • Quinones followed with the first two goals of her career, scoring at 59:20 and 66:57 to move the Knights out in front 5-0. DeSantis assisted on the first goal with Amanda DeVito (Massapequa, N.Y.) helping on the second tally.
  • Marilena Mangiaracina (Franklin Square, N.Y.) closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season at 80:09, finishing off an assist from Lauren Grippi (East Islip, N.Y.).
  • Mount Saint Mary outshot Maritime 9-3 after halftime.
  • The Knights closed the second half with a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
For The Knights
  • DeSantis closed the night with her first two goals of the season and with five points.
  • Quinones found the back of the net for the first two times in her career.
  • Bornstad picked up her team leading fourth assist of the season and moved her team lead in points to six.
  • Kennedy and Devito each picked up their first career points for the Knights with Hunter collecting her first point of the season.
  • All four goals scorers picked up their first markers of the season.
  • Kakavas was not forced to make a save in 67 minutes of work, while Brucato turned aside a pair of shots in 23 minutes of action.
 
For Maritime
  • Sara Wright led the Privateers with two shots in the game.
  • Lizzie Pomaro recorded one save in goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the game with a 14-4 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Knights took seven of the eight corner kicks in the contest.
