New York, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returned to Skyline Conference play on Tuesday with a 25-6, 25-3, 25-11 road win at Yeshiva. Junior
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the charge with 13 kills for the Knights.
Tuesday's win gets Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 11-11 and improves it to 5-4 against league opponents. The win over the Maccabees is the 10
th straight for the Knights dating back to the start of the 2010 season.
First Set
- Mount Saint Mary hit a scorching .565 in the opening frame on Tuesday, putting away 15 kills in 23 swings.
- The Mount opened the set with a 7-1 run and later broke the frame open with an 8-0 stretch capped by a Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) service ace that pushed the Mount in front 17-3.
- The Knights went on to score eight of the final 10 points of the frame, including a Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.) kill to close out the set.
Second Set
- The Knights added 10 more kills in the middle stanza, hitting an efficient .321.
- The Mount scored the first nine points of the set, highlighted by three kills from Riddle.
- Mount Saint Mary used a 5-0 spurt to open a 14-1 advantage and scored the final eight points of the set to move in front 2-0.
Third Set
- The Mount scored three of the first four points in the final frame, sparked by a Romano kill and a service ace from Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.).
- A 5-0 stretch aided by a pair of Riddle service aces pushed the Knights in front 12-4.
- A second 5-0 run keyed by a Mary Milano (East Patchogue, N.Y.) service ace pushed the Knights in front 19-6.
- The Knights finished off the night with three of the final four points, including a kill from Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.).
For The Knights
- Riddle reached double-figures in kills for the 18th straight match, putting away 13 kills and hitting .324. Riddle rounded out the night with six aces and a pair of digs.
- Romano put away four kills for the Knights with Stephanie Mele (Newburgh, N.Y.) adding three winners.
- Milano, Hydo and Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) all put away two kills with Milano adding two aces and five digs.
- Cammarata handed out 22 assists to lead all players and finished off a strong night with three aces and eight digs.
- Barbara closed the victory with a kill and seven digs.
For The Maccabees
- Keren Raskin and Shira Sredni led the way with two kills apiece.
- Rebekah Bargraser equaled the match-high with eight digs.
Match Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary finished the night with a 31-6 advantage in kills and hit .315 as a team.
- The Knights dominated the service game with a 12-0 edge in aces.
- Total team blocks in the match were even at 2-2.
