Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team picked up its second conference victory in as many nights on Wednesday with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 sweep of visiting Old Westbury.
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) each reached double-figures in kills, combing for 30 winners on the night.
Wednesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 12-11 overall and 6-4 in Skyline Conference play and gives it 17 straight victories over the Panthers dating back to the 2007 season.
First Set
- Mount Saint Mary held an 8-5 edge in kills in the opening set, hitting .211 to start the match.
- The Knights held the lead the majority of the opening set and surged in front 20-9 with a 7-0 run highlighted by four Wolf service aces.
- Mount Saint Mary closed the frame with three of the final four points, including a kill from Riddle to grab the early 1-0 lead.
Second Set
- The Knights put away 11 kills in the middle frame and held Old Westbury to a .086 attack percentage.
- The Knights broke open a back-and-forth set with six straight points to take an 18-10 advantage. Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) sparked the run with a trio of kills.
- After Old Westbury battled back to 22-16, the Knights ended the set with a 3-1 stretch to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Wolf keyed the closing run with a kill and an ace.
Third Set
- The Mount closed the night with 17 kills in the final frame, hitting a blistering .467 in the third set.
- The Knights overcame a 5-3 deficit with a 5-1 run and later used another 5-1 spurt to gain a 13-8 advantage.
- The two teams traded the next 10 points before a KayLani Baynes (New Windsor, N.Y.) ace pushed the Knights in front 19-13.
- The Knights would see the Panthers climb to within 22-18 and 24-20 before an Old Westbury service error ended the match for the Knights.
For The Knights
- Riddle produced a match-high 18 kills and hit a blistering .615 on the night, reaching double-figures in kills for the 19th straight contest. She rounded out the victory with an ace and six digs for the Knights.
- Wolf recorded five service aces to go along with 12 kills, hitting an efficient .370 in the match. She closed a strong match with nine digs.
- Hydo wrapped up the win with four kills and four digs, joining Wolf with a team-high five aces.
- Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 31 assists and lifted seven digs.
- Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) led the team with 15 digs, adding four assists and an ace.
For The Panthers
- Daesha Garrison recorded a team-high 10 kills.
- Ally Parker handed out 18 assists and lifted eight digs.
- Cameron McGinn lifted a team-high nine digs.
Match Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary finished with a 36-24 advantage in kills, hitting .294 as a team in the match.
- The Knights controlled the service game yet again with a 13-3 edge in aces.
- Old Westbury posted the only total team block in the contest.
