Knights Power Past Purchase On Senior Day

Doyle nets third hat trick of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) posted his third hat trick of the season and Peter Ramirez (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished with a goal and an assist as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team scored a 5-1 Skyline Conference win over Purchase on Saturday. The win pushes the Mount's unbeaten streak to six contests.
 
Saturday's victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 7-5-1 overall on the season and to 6-1-1 in Skyline Conference play. The triumph over the Panthers is the Mount's fifth straight.
 
First Half
  • The Knights scored on half of their eight shots in the first half.
  • J.C. Lopez (East Islip, N.Y.) got the Knights on the board in the fourth minute when he headed home a corner kick started by Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) at 3:21.
  • Doyle got his first of the game and the eventual game winning goal at 21:44 when he headed in a long crossing pass from Matthew Flanagan (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) at the 21:44 mark of the contest.
  • Doyle struck again just under nine minutes later when he collected a turnover and buried the Mount's third goal at 30:10.
  • Doyle finished off the first half hat trick at the 39:08 mark of the contest when he polished off a feed from Ramirez to send the Mount into the intermission with a 4-0 lead.
  • Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) recorded a single save in the opening period.
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the half with an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
Second Half
  • The Knights picked right up where they left off to start the second half with Ramirez scoring in the first half minute after the break. He collected a long pass from Ismael Bravo (Middletown, N.Y) at 45:25 to open a 5-0 lead.
  • Purchase finally broke through in the 61st minute when Colman Cassidy scored his third of the season off a pass from Devonte Dawson at 60:22.
  • Mount Saint Mary outshot Purchase 8-5 in the second half and took the only corner kick of the half.
  • Decker turned aside three more shots in the second half.
 
For The Knights
  • Doyle moves his team lead in goals to 15 and points to 30 with his hat trick. He has now scored a goal in eight straight games.
  • Wyant picked up his team leading 10th assist of the season on the Mount's opening goal.
  • Ramirez scored his third goal of the season and picked up his second assist and sits tied for second on the team in helpers and third on the team in goals and points.
  • Bravo picked up his second assist of the season.
  • Lopez scored his second goal of the year.
  • Decker finished the victory with four saves.
 
For The Panthers
  • Cassidy scored his third of the season on a team-high five shots.
  • Nick Prata finished the day with three attempts.
  • Cristian Ishoo made a pair of saves in goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the game with a 16-10 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Knights 7-1.
