Knights Push Unbeaten Streak To Four With Victory Over Yeshiva

Doyle pots 10th goal of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team moved its unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1) on Sunday afternoon following a tough 1-0 victory over Yeshiva. Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) scored his 10th goal of the season for the only scoring in the game.
 
Sunday's victory moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-5-1 overall on the season and to 4-1-1 in conference play, while Yeshiva falls to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in league action.
 
First Half
  • Yeshiva got off the first four shots of the game.
  • The Mount's first shot of the game came just over 15 minutes into the contest.
  • The eventual game winning goal came in the 33rd minute when Doyle headed in a service from Joseph Mesoraca (Oceanside, N.Y.). Mesoraca played a ball in the box from just inside midfield that Doyle headed in at 32:36 for the only scoring in the game.
  • Yeshiva outshot Mount Saint Mary 5-4 in the opening half.
  • Corner kicks in the first period were even at 2-2.
  • Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) made a pair of saves prior to halftime for the Mount.
 
Second Half
  • Yeshiva finished the second half with an 8-6 advantage in shots.
  • Decker kept the Maccabees off the board with four saves after halftime.
  • Second half corner kicks went to Yeshiva 3-2.
  • The Mount's best opportunities came when Christopher Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit the near side post in the 75th minute and a blast from Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) sailed over the bar with just under three minutes left to play.
 
For The Knights
  • Doyle pushed his team lead in goals to 10 and points to 20. His marker was his second game winning goal of the season and gives him a tally in each of the last six games.
  • Mesoraca picked up his second assist of the season and his second helper in as many games.
  • Doyle, Maggi and Wyant led the Knights with two shots apiece.
  • Decker recorded his fifth shutout of the season with six stops. He lowered his goals against average to 1.40 and raised his save percentage to .775.
 
For The Maccabees
  • Ethan Fettaya and Lucas Baredes led Yeshiva with three shots.
  • Asher Martin posted a pair of shots in the loss.  
  • Sagi Badesh finished with two saves in 45 minutes of work.
 
Match Statistics
  • Yeshiva closed the game with a 13-10 advantage in overall shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on target.
  • Corner kicks also went the way of the Maccabees by a slim 5-4 margin.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary travels to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday for 7:00 p.m. kick-off with the Golden Eagles.
  • Yeshiva hosts Purchase on Thursday.
