Women's Basketball Soars Past Sarah Lawrence In Home Finale

Bojka tallies 22 points in victory

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team cruised to its 19th victory of the season as the Knights defeated conference foe Sarah Lawrence 80-42 on Tuesday evening at the Kaplan Center. Junior Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) tallied her 11th 20-plus point game of the year in the win.

Bojka scored the first five points of the game before the Gryphons countered with the next seven points to take a two point lead with 6:46 to go in the quarter. Mount Saint Mary countered with a quick 8-0 run of its own on layups from four different players to push the lead to six.

Sarah Lawrence cut the lead to two points at the end of the first quarter on a bucket from Ana Srdanovic and two free throws from Camryn Davis. The Gryphons then jumped out to a four point lead two minutes into the second quarter on a Demitra Loukopoulos jumper. Mount Saint Mary regained the lead just 40 seconds later with a Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) bucket at 18-17. 

Following a layup from Jordyn Medina to cut the lead to one point with 2:38 remaining in the quarter, the Knights scored the final 10 points of the half to take an 11 point lead into the break. Pace led the way with 10 points and six rebounds in the first half as the Mount shot just 27.8-percent in the half and made just one three. Davis tallied nine points in the first half for Sarah Lawrence as they shot just 25.8-percent and made only one triple.

Mount Saint Mary quickly elevated the lead to 18 on an Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) lay-in with 8:14 to go in the third quarter. After a Davis free throw cut the lead down to 13, the Mount finished the quarter on a 24-11 run with Bojka scoring nine points during the final seven minutes of the quarter. The Knights shot 10-for-15 from the field in the spurt.

The Mount's lead ballooned to 34 points on a Bojka bucket with 5:57 left in the game before a Cameron Villanueva (Columbia, Conn.) triple with 1:25 left in the contest gave the Knights its largest lead of the game at 43 points. 

Bojka finished with 15 points in the second half while Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) added 10 points in the half as Mount Saint Mary shot an even 50.0-percent in the second half and knocked down five triples. Davis scored 11 points for the Gryphons in the half while Loukopoulos chipped in 10 as Sarah Lawrence shot 30.0-percent and went 0-for-6 from three.

Bojka tallied 22 points on 10-for-20 from the field while adding eight rebounds and two assists. Pace added 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks with Desrats chipping in 12 points and three steals. Keenan pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds in the contest.

Davis finished with 20 points on 8-for-17 from the field and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Loukopoulos added 16 points while Medina chipped in eight rebounds for the Gryphons.

The Knights finished at 39.5-percent on the game and knocked down six three-pointers on the night. Sarah Lawrence was limited to 27.9-percent on the game and made just one three-point attempt. Mount Saint Mary held the edge in points off turnovers at 19-7, points in the paint at 42-24 and second chance points at 13-4. The Mount outrebounded the Gryphons 57-34 and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds.

Tuesday's victory pushes the Knights to 19-5 overall and 17-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is the regular season finale on the road against Purchase on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
