Women's Basketball Clinches Third Straight 20-Win Season Over Purchase

Four players finish with double digit points

Purchase, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball won its 20th game of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Knights defeated Purchase 68-53 in the regular season finale. Junior Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) led a quartet of double digit scorers with 20 points for the Mount.

The Panthers reeled off a quick 11-4 run to start the contest, capped by an Arta Krasniqi three-pointer with 4:39 remaining, Mount Saint Mary tallied the next eight points to take its first lead of the game on an Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) layup at the 2:35 mark. A Krasniqi three before the end of the quarter tied the game at 19.

Purchase started the second quarter on a 13-3 run to take a 10 point lead on a DeJeana Peoples three-pointer with four minutes left. The Knights could not cut the lead under seven points in the final four minutes and trailed by eight points at the halftime break.

Bojka led the way with 11 points in the first half as the Knights shot 39.3-percent overall but were just 2-for-11 from three. Shadai Plowden scored 18 points for Purchase in the half as Krasniqi added 11 while the Panthers shot a blistering 58.3-percent from the field and made four three-pointers.

After three free throws from Krasniqi with 8:01 left in the third quarter, the Knights held the Panthers scoreless for the rest of the quarter. The Mount scored 21 straight points in the third quarter as Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) scored 13 points during the run. Purchase was 0-for-8 from the field and committed 14 turnovers in the third quarter.

The Knights took its largest lead of the contest at 18 points on a Desrats jumper with 4:47 left in the final quarter before it was brought to 18 points for a second time on a Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) bucket with 3:29 in the fourth.

Desrats finished with 15 points in the second half as the Knights shot 38.9-percent in the half. The Panthers shot just 15.4-percent in the second half as Krasniqi and Plowden scored 13 of the 15 total points in the second half.

Bojka finished with 20 points on 9-for-24 shooting and added five rebounds and three steals. Desrats added 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and a team-high five steals. Pace chipped in 12 points while Keenan tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards along with a team-high four assists.

Plowden finished with 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting and added eight rebounds and three assists for the Panthers. Krasniqi finished with a double-double of her own with 18 points and 12 rebounds. 

Mount Saint Mary finished at 36.8-percent overall and made six three-pointers on the day while Purchase shot 33.3-percent and was 4-for-15 from three-point range. The Knights outscored the Panthers 31-8 in points off turnovers, 19-7 in fast break points and 34-26 in points in the paint. 

At 20-5 overall and 18-2 in the Skyline Conference during the regular season, the Mount heads into the Skyline Conference Championship as the top seed. The Knights will play the winner of the first round contest between fourth-seeded St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and fifth seeded Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center.
