Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) recorded a game-high 30 points and secured her fifth double-double of the season as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball won its tenth straight game over the College of Mount Saint Vincent 71-55 on Thursday evening.
The Knights jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after four quick points from Bojka as well as a three-pointer from
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) and a free throw from
Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.). Following a Victoria Hanley jumper that trimmed the lead to four with 7:54 remaining, the Mount ended the quarter on a 14-4 spurt that was capped off by a
Cameron Villanueva baseline two-pointer.Â
Bojka tallied 14 of the Mount's 22 points in the first quarter as the Knights held a 14 point lead after one period. The Knights lead escalated to 19 points with 4:36 left in the second quarter on a Pace layup as the Mount carried a 16 point lead into the halftime intermission.
Bojka finished with 16 at the half with seven rebounds while Pace added eight points for the Knights.
Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) handed out four assists in the first half as the Mount shot a strong 54.8-percent from the field and were 4-for-9 from three-point range. Catherine Amodio tallied seven points to lead the Dolphins at the half as Mount Saint Vincent shot 34.3-percent from the field and were held scoreless from the three-point line.
The Mount's lead never fell below 14 points in the third quarter and ballooned back to 19 points when Bojka drilled a three-pointer from the corner with 3:37 remaining in the quarter. The lead was cut to 14 on an Aria Rheams free throw with just over a minute left but
Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) countered with a three before the end of the quarter to push the lead back to 17.
The Dolphins began the final quarter on a 9-1 run to cut the lead to single digits for the first time since the first quarter. Mount Saint Mary responded with a 12-5 run over the final five minutes of the game as Bojka tallied nine of the points, including two three-pointers, and Pace also knocked down a triple.
Bojka scored 14 points after the half as Keenan ripped down 10 rebounds for the Mount. The Knights cooled to just 29.6-percent from the field while making five threes in the second half. DarNeisha Brice tallied 10 points in the half as the Dolphins shot 37.9-percent and made three three-pointers.Â
Bojka completed a strong evening with 30 points on 13-for-24 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three, and grabbed 10 rebounds for her double-double. Pace added 13 points and four assists while Keenan tallied eight points, a team-high six assists and ripped down 14 caroms. Tabasco capped a solid night with six points, a team-high five steals and two assists.
Amodio led the way for the Dolphins with 15 points, on 7-for-11 shooting, while Rheams tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Brice added 10 points while Ashley Martin led the Dolphins in rebounds with 13.
Mount Saint Mary finished the evening at 43.1-percent while going 9-for-26 from three-point territory. Mount Saint Vincent shot 35.9-percent from the field and were just 3-for-14 from the three-point stripe. The Knights outpaced the Dolphins 18-6 in points off turnovers as well as fast break points at 26-4. The Dolphins outscored the Mount 36-26 in points in the paint.
Thursday's win extends the Knights winning streak to 10 and moves its record to 16-3 overall and 14-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a road contest with St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off in Patchogue is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
