Knights Winning Streak Snapped at 10 Against St. Joseph's-L.I.

Mount suffers first regular season conference loss since 2018

Patchogue, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team had its 10 game winning streak snapped on the road against St. Joseph's-L.I. 68-62. Junior Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) tallied 20 points in the loss for the Knights as they suffered its first regular season conference loss since 2018.

The Golden Eagles ran out to an 11-2 lead on Alyssa Signor's jumper with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter. Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) countered with a three-pointer to cut the lead to six but Margaret Kopcienski buried a three to end the quarter with a nine point lead.

St. Joseph's-L.I. tallied its largest lead of the game at 12 points when Alyssa Adomaites knocked down a three-pointer at the 8:12 mark of the second quarter. The quarter continued back and forth play until the Knights went on an 8-2 run over the final minute to cut the lead to four at the half.

Bojka tallied 15 points in the first half as only four players tallied points for the Mount in the half. The Knights were limited to 29-percent in the first half and were 5-for-17 from the three-point line while the Golden Eagles balanced scoring attack was led by Signor with seven points. St. Joseph's-L.I. shot 39.3-percent in the half and were 5-for-12 from three.

The Mount tied the game for the first time with 9:09 to go in the third quarter when Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) buried a three-pointer on a feed from Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.). Two Tabasco free throws gave the Knights first lead of the game with 7:20 left. The third quarter ended tied at 44 after Gabriella Rafaniello (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a three with 44 seconds left in the quarter.

The Golden Eagles scored the first eight points of the final quarter to regain an eight point lead. A Catherine Siounis jumper with 2:37 remaining in the quarter pushed the St. Joseph's-L.I. to 10 points before two three-pointers from Desrats and a bucket from Bojka cut the lead to two with 51 seconds left. 

St. Joseph's-L.I. made five three throws in the final minute as the Mount could only manage one free throw and the Golden Eagles snapped the Mount Saint Mary winning streak at 10,

Desrats finished the second half with 12 points while Pace added seven as the Knights shot 31.6-percent from the field and 39.1-percent from three-point range. St. Joseph's-L.I. shot a blistering 57.7-percent from the field and 2-for-5 from three-point territory with Adomaites leading the way with 13 points in the second half.

Bojka tallied her ninth 20-plus point game of the season on 8-for-17 from the field and grabbed six rebounds on the day. Desrats tallied 15 points for the Knights as Pace added seven points and five assists. Tabasco recorded a career-high nine assists and swiped a team-high three steals. 

Adomaites scored a game-high 18 points along with five assists and four steals for the Golden Eagles. Megan Steinman tallied 13 points and eight rebounds while Signor recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Julianna Knice handed out a team-high six assists.

The Knights finished the day shooting 30.4-percent and were 14-for-40 from three-point range while the Golden Eagles shot 48.1-percent on the game and were 7-for-17 from three. St. Joseph's-L.I. held the edge 11-9 in points off turnovers and outscored Mount Saint Mary 26-10 in points in the paint.

Saturday's loss pushes the Mount to 16-4 overall and 14-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home contest against Yeshiva on Wednesday evening. Tip-off with the Maccabees at the Kaplan Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
