Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team rolled to its sixth straight victory on Thursday evening at the Kaplan Center as the Knights defeated Skyline foe St. Joseph's-L.I. 62-44. Junior
Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 18 points and secured her fourth double-double of the season.
The Knights rattled off the first 10 points of the evening as Bojka tallied five quick points in the first four minutes of the contest. A Bojka lay-in with 2:32 left off a feed from sophomore
Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) took the Mount lead to 12 points. The Golden Eagles closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to seven at the end of one quarter.
St. Joseph's-L.I. cut the lead to five points in the second quarter on an Alyssa Adomaites layup with 8:28 left in the quarter. The Golden Eagles trimmed the lead to four points with 5:28 remaining on another Adomaites bucket before the Knights concluded the quarter on an 11-4 run to give the Mount a 37-24 lead at the halftime intermission.Â
Bojka tallied 13 points in the first half while Keenan added 10 points for Mount Saint Mary. Adomaites led the Golden Eagles with 10 points and Megan Steinman chipped in eight points at the halftime intermission. St. Joseph's-L.I. shot 35.7-percent in the first half, including 2-for-11 from three, while the Mount shot an even 50-percent from the field along with just 2-for-7 from three-point range.
The Golden Eagles once again cut the lead to five points on a Julianna Knice three-pointer with 4:19 remaining in the quarter. The Knights countered with 15 unanswered points over the final four minutes including nine points from Desrats during the run.
The Knights lead never fell below 18 points in the final quarter as the Golden Eagles were limited to 21.2-percent shooting in the second half and just 4-for-16 from three-point territory. The Mount finished at 32.4-percent in the second half as Desrats led the way with nine points.Â
Bojka finished another strong night for the Mount as she finished with 18 points on 8-for-16 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds while handing out a team-high six assists. She also swiped five steals while Desrats closed a solid evening with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Tabasco added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists while Keenan finished with 10 points and six boards.Â
Adomaites finished with 17 points for the Golden Eagles while Steinman added 11 points and eight rebounds. Juliana Centron-Leonardo chipped in six points and a team-high 10 rebounds for St. Joseph's-L.I.
St. Joseph's-L.I. was limited to just 27.9-percent from the field and made six triples on the evening. The Knights finished the night at 41.2-percent from the field and made four three-pointers while dominating points off turnovers at 21-8. The Mount also held the edge in points in the paint at 42-16 and second chance points at 12-7.
Thursday's victory pushes the Knights to 12-3 overall and 10-0 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for the Mount is a road trip to Farmingdale State on Tuesday, January 21. Tip-off with the Rams is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
