Bojka's Career Night Carries Knights To Fifth Straight Win

Junior scores career-high 35 points en route to a double-double

Riverdale, N.Y. - Junior Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) rattled off a career high 35 points and registered her third double-double of the season as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team won its fifth straight game on Tuesday evening, defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent on the road 75-63. The victory also marked the 40th straight regular season conference victory for the Mount.

The Knights fell in an early 6-0 hole as Victoria Hanley and Aria Rheams combined for three early lay-ins before Bojka got the scoring going for the Knights off a Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) feed. The Dolphins held the lead for the first five and a half minutes of the first quarter before a Desrats triple gave the Mount its first lead at 14-13 at the 4:29 mark. 

The Dolphins carried a 23-17 lead into the second quarter and a bucket by Hanley pushed the lead to seven points with 7:11 remaining in the quarter. The Knights countered with three-pointers from Desrats and sophomore Cameron Villanueva (Columbia, Conn.) to trim the lead to one. Three-pointers from Bojka and Desrats before the end of the quarter gave the Mount a 35-31 lead at the half.

Bojka and Desrats each had nine points at the half while Villanueva chipped in seven points for Mount Saint Mary. Mount Saint Vincent was led by Hanley who scored 10 and Rheams added eight at the half. The Knights shot 37.1-percent from the field and knocked down six three-pointers while the Dolphins shot 33.3-percent from the field and made just two triples.

The Knights elevated its lead to eight points coming out of the half on a Bojka triple and a Lyndsay Pace (Cranford, N.J.) free throw. Mount Saint Vincent rattled off a 10-2 run to take a 43-41 lead on a Victoria Hanley at the 4:54 mark of the third quarter. Three-pointers from Desrats and Bojka gave the Mount a 54-48 lead before a Rheams layup cut the Knights lead to four before the end of the third quarter.

Mount Saint Mary's lead was cut to two points with 4:53 left in the fourth quarter on a Hanley triple before the Knights concluded the night on a 12-5 run to earn a hard-fought 12 point victory. Bojka finished the second half with 26 points as the Knights shot 37.1-percent in the second half and made six more threes. The Dolphins shot 42.8-percent and also made six threes but committed 14 turnovers in the half.

Bojka finished the evening 14-for-30 from the field to earn her 35 point night and grabbed 14 rebounds to garner her double-double. Desrats registered a double-double of her own, adding 17 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a team-high eight assists. Villanueva chipped in 10 points while Toriana Tabasco (Cranford, N.J.) chipped in five points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Brice led the Dolphins with 21 points while Hanley added 19 points, six rebounds, three steals, three blocks and three assists. Rheams chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds on the evening.

Mount Saint Mary finished at 36.1-percent for the night and was 12-for-34 from three-point range while Mount Saint Vincent finished 36.9-percent from the field and 8-for-26 from three. The Knights held the edge in second chance points at 19-6 and points off turnovers at 21-19. The Dolphins held the edge in points in the paint at 28-22.

Tuesday's victory moves the Knights to 11-3 overall and 9-0 in Skyline Conference action. Next up for the Mount is a home contest against St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday evening. Tip-off with the Golden Eagles at the Kaplan Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
