Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team received hat tricks from
Lauren Engel (Red Hook, N.Y.),
Chrissy Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) and
KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) on its way to setting team records in both goals and points in a 19-0 Skyline Conference victory over visiting Yeshiva Friday afternoon.
The Knights opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Platt scored her first of three with what proved to be the deciding goal. She finished off a feed from
Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) at the 3:06 mark of the contest to give the Mount the lead for good in the game.
Eight more goals followed before halftime for the Mount, with Engel scoring three times in a six-minute stretch before the intermission. Cannella found the back of the net twice before halftime, with
Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.),
Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.) and
Haley Murphy (Massapequa, N.Y.) adding first half goals. Engel and Zecca added first half assists, with Murphy helping on a pair of first half goals.
Mount Saint Mary finished the first half with a 34-0 advantage in shots and controlled corner kicks 8-0. Yeshiva goalkeeper, Shani Kravetz, finished a busy opening 45 minutes with 12 saves for the Maccabees.
In the second half, Cannella and Platt finished off hat tricks for the Knights, while
Julie Roethel (Monroe, N.Y.),
Lauren Grippi (East Islip, N.Y.),
Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.), DeSantis,
Bella Piacentini (Wolcott, Conn.) and
Maeve Ward (Warwick, N.Y.) all scored their first goals of the season.
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) assisted on three goals after halftime for the Mount.
In addition to one of the three hat tricks on the day, Engel picked up an assist for the Mount to finish off a seven point day. Bornstad assisted on four goals in the win, with DeSantis, Ward, Grippi and Zecca all posting a goal and an assist. Murphy finished off the day with a goal and a pair of helpers for the Knights.
Junior
Cyan Scott (Buena Park, Calif.) picked up her first win and her first shutout with the Knights without having to make a save on the day. Kravetz rounded out the day with 16 stops for the Maccabees.
The Mount closed the day with a team record 19 goals, besting the previous mark of 13 set against Pratt on September 24, 2017. The Knights also finished the day with a program best 50 points.
For the game, Mount Saint Mary held a 57-0 advantage in overall shots, a 35-0 advantage in shots on goal and took each of the 17 corner kicks awarded.
At 1-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in Skyline Conference play, the Mount returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Ithaca. Kick-off with the Bombers at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
