Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team opened up the home slate with a 2-1 victory over Bard on Wednesday evening. Senior
Joey Dolan (Highland, N.Y.) buried two goals in the second half in the Knights second victory of the season.
The Mount struggled to find the range in the first half as the Knights outshot Bard 9-0 in the first half. Mount Saint Mary also dominated corner kicks 6-0 as they failed to find the back of the net in the early going.
Early in the second half, the Mount lit the scoreboard first as Dolan received a pass from
Joseph Bacalhau (Woodbridge, N.J.) inside the box and fired past the keeper to tally his first goal of the season at the 57:56 mark. The Bacalhau to Dolan connection struck again later in the half as Dolan scored his second tally of the evening in the 67th minute to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage.
The Raptors struck back late in the second half as a beautiful feed from Dylan Jung found the head of Denton Lane in the 89th minute to cut the Knights lead in half. Bard had one last free kick that went through the box untouched as the Mount picked up its second victory of the early season.
Dolan led the Knights with five shots on the night as
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) finished tied for the team lead in shots on goal with two.
Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) earned his second win of the year as he only had to make one save in the contest. Joey Carbone and Lane had the lone two shots in the game and Logan Leppo took the loss as he made five saves.
The Mount finished the contest with a 16-2 shots advantage as well as a 7-2 shots on goal edge. The Knights also held the edge in corner kicks at 8-1.
At 2-1 overall on the season, Mount Saint Mary heads north to take part in the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic. The Mount will take on William Paterson on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and then will take on either Hobart or Plattsburgh on Saturday at a time to be determined.
